LCR - Glovebox CD Changer slot?

My 54 plate LCR didn't come with a CD changer when I bought it, just the standard single disc AURA headunit.

The bit that has always puzzled me is that the glovebox has a kind of frame in it that looks ideal to hold a CD changer, this frame takes up a lot of space and also because the glovebox light is positioned to the left of the cd changer frame you can't actually see what is in the space that would have been occupied by the changer when it is dark anyway. Is there a way of removing the changer casing as I am sure the glovebox would be much more useful without it? Is there just a big hole behind the cd changer casing, I don't want to start pulling it out and up breaking it just to find that I am looking at loads of wires.

to be frank - no.

It's 2 seperate sections - and there is no way it comes apart.
Only thing you can do is remove the whole glovebox, and fit one from a different car.

I THINK people have fitted an audi glovebox before, but not sure on what it looks like.

The whole glove box is very easy to remove, about 6 screws and the whole unit comes out, then you can have a decent idea of what you can do with it

Cheers for the quick reply Pabs.:)

It is just a little thing that has bugged me whenever I use the glovebox and tbh I thought I had been given a car that was ready for a CD changer but SEAT had suddenly decided around the time my car was made that they were no longer standard equipment on LCR's! I didn't realise that all mk1 Leons had them like that, not to worry though still love the Leon.:D

yes mate - since i sold my cd-changer etc when i fitted a new headunit, its always been one of my bugbears (is that a word? lol) too.

Can only fit anything worthwhile in the LHS - and then you can't see whats in there anyway :(

Cheers Dennis, will probably live with it, but always worth knowing for future reference that it could be changed for an Audi one etc!:)

i had a51 lc then bought a brand new at the time lcr o5 that also came without a cd changer which i didnt know until it arrived,i played up merry hell so they fitted me one foc

You did well getting a changer foc Lee, I remember when I ordered my LCR in July 04 the brochure clearly stated that a CD changer was standard equipment in conjunction with a tape player head unit but when the car came it only had single disc Aura headunit and no changer. The spec changed whilst my LCR was going through the order and delivery process.

It didn't bother me too much though as always found in previous cars I had with a changer, whenever I wanted to listen to a CD in the house it would always be sat outside in the car! No problem now either cos I have my trusty I-pod and Alpine headunit and all my CD's in the house.:)

Same could have happened to me - ordered a TDi Cupra new in August 04 which should have come with the CD changer, but they delivered one of the first FR's which didn't come with one standard although Seat had fitted one FOC before delivery. I was impressed with that bit, just a shame the car had 9 faults on delivery though (Marshalls of Bedford's crap PDI procedures and after sales worsened by a complete Plank of a dealership manager!).

Audi a3 box Does fit!!! Needs a bit of bodging and you lose the damping of the door! The different pattern is not easy to spot if you change doors over! Did it in my last LCR but not bothered in this one, interior of a3 box is much bigger with lid inside to a lower section, its all covered in felty stuff inc lower shelf so bits n bobs dont rattle! Nice really, and here I am talking myself into doin it again!!!! only real issue that I didnt solve is the airbag switch A3 on is smaller and leon one wont fit!! thought I may be able to order A3 one with my key number but wiring is different!
