Hi, i was just driving home and noticed the windows were steamed up, so checked and saw that the heater was on 4 but wasn't working! I tried starting the engine again but no luck. Both cold and warm are dead, i'm seriously considering getting rid of it. :(

Don't know if 36 is the heater fuse or the engine fan, I don't have the book to hand to confirm.

Mine too, i've had nothing but trouble with it. First day i got it i was stopped by the police in a unmarked 3 series because my insurance hadn't updated (they let me go after phoning the company), then the engine management light came on for no reason and needed resetting, then the exhaust went after hitting a minor pothole and the mirrors weouldnt fold in so had to be sprayed whilst still on the car and now the bloody heater has stopped working (ac was already broke when i brought it). Arghh!

I'll check the fuses, thanks

Have you tried getting the AC re-gassed?
It won't work if it hasn't got enough gas in it, and can "run out" if not used regualarly enough.
My mirrors where close to not folding in as they simply hadn't been folded before I bought it - bit of WD40 soon sorted that.
I've noticed on a few occasions that my exhaust mounts work themselves loose, however I do live on a road with speed bumps...

I think it needs a new Air con filter though , my mate who works for RAC plugged his VagCom in and said the A/C Filter had gone. I put almost a can of WD40 in the gap on the mirrors and still no joy, but they're sorted anyway now and the exhaust had a small hole in it just before the engine so needed replacing :(

As far as I know there is only one air filter for the heating system which is up under the glovebox, if you lie on the passanger footwell you will see the two torx screws that hold it in.
Also from what I remember it's only about £5/6 to replace, the only go one way, if you are replacing it check the air flow arrows to get it the right way round...
You could also try some of that exhaust sealant stuff with a sleave maybe to tide you over for now.

hi, I removed the negative lead on the battery for a short time and this reset the system but my fr has climate control, you will need your radio code if you try this!

i'd guess your heater matrix has blown...don't know where they are but this is a common cause of fan/heater not working and condensation build-up
