Squeaky Windows !!

Hi Guys and Gals

Can anybody help, the front passenger window sqeals and squeaks when it is raised and its driving me round the bend. I've tried silicone spray around the rubber seals an the window frame but to no avail. Next I want to take the door trim off to have a look inside and possibly lubricate any runners or guides. How ever I'm not sure where the fixing screws are for the trim panel. Is there a removable piece of trim on the inner door handle? Anybody have any pictures or links to other sites?

Need info BDQ as holiday time approaches

Cheers

Its not a Quick fix but they sell manuals on ebay saying its the ones the seat garage use if this is the case it will show you where all the fixings are and give you a good idea and not wreck you door . Also theres a guy Klaus on here and he seems to know a lot about the Altea . The manual is £4 odd including postage . I'm thinking of getting one myself and if its no good it's not exactly breaking the bank . Hope this helps in some way . Baz .

I have the exact same problem with front passanger window, when it reaches near to the top on closing, it make an awful dry scraping/grindng sound.
At last service the stealer did something to stop it, but it did not last long (a matter of a few months). This does not happen on any of the other 3 windows. Would be great to find an answer. :)

Its a glass to rubber squeal, as if the rubber has dried out. I've tried WD40 and also some rubber lubricant (spray can type) and as you say its messy but its not working.

Thanks for your help

Hopefully Klaus will see the thread and pick up on it.

I've had two "Official Manuals" from eBay and to be honest they are pirate copies that stop working after 30 days and the software is a nightmare to load. I'm not saying don't, I'm saying be aware of what you are buying.

Thanks for your help :D

I've got the squealing window as well, drivers side. Tried some silicone polish but it only worked for a few days. Seems to me as though it is worst when the door/window gets very hot. It gets so bad that sometimes the window retracts downwards as if something got trapped in the closing gap.
Still trying to find a 'no mess' solution to the problem.

Bill55 - My problem exactly - it does not happen in the winter or rainy season. If its really bad the window reverses as if it has met an obstruction. Will keep you posted if I get a solution.

Hi ... not sure if this will be exactly the help you've expected:

All I can do for you right now is
- tell you, that this problem is a persisting issue in the german board since a couple of years now
- it seems to be solved, at least a reliable user has done and reported about a "healing":
see posts by Duffytec, starting with this one)
- in most cases it seems to be merely caused by the wire rope rubbing against the guiding rails
- lubricating windows or seals is wasteful of effort
- the above mentioned user has replaced the galled wire rope with a standard bowden cable, but mentions, that the following repair kit would have been the slightly more expensive but more convenient way which he'd prefer next time.
- have a look at the ebay-link, that's the repair-kit that's said to be doing the magic . ;)
-still, you have to dis-/reassemble lots of door parts ... and this can be tricky for complete laymen.

Sorry I can't translate all of the technical terms or the complete postings ... but hopefully, there is someone who understands most of the german discussion and instructions and will get you informed about it.

Back in a couple of days ... Klaus

Mine too......

Mine has started squeaking too - drivers side only so far. Heat/age combination as explained above I assume. May move to Iceland to deal with problem, seems less hassle than removing door panel and playing with cables.......

When it rains

Obtained a workshop manual from eBay so I can get the door panel off now and I know what I'm faced with. Still off on hols tomorrow so it will have to wait.

Well, mine finally squeaked to a halt. Toledo mk3 drivers window stuck 3/4 shut, would open but not close fully.

Had to remove door panel and managed to get window shut. The problem, at least on mine was due to the wire cable that pulls the window up and down appears to have been rubbing on the metal guide rail and has frayed. Sounds like the problem mentioned in the translated German in a previous post.

Does anyone know whether the door/window mechanism is exactly the same on the Altea and the mk3 Toledo? I can only find the cables for the Altea and not the Toledo.

Will try to take pics when I repair and post.

RE Squeaky windows

If its a similar system to an Audi A6 (part of vag) there are plastic guides as part of the window mechanism that actually take the window up and down . If you go onto utube you can watch them being changed . Maybe there are videos showing how to remove the door card and how to fix the windows . Worth a go I think.

I've just bought the kit that Klawit linked to, after doing that i've seen there is a left and right kit listed on ebay

I've bought the kit for the right but its my left hand (passenger door) that is making all the noises. What's the likelihood of the kit being the same and working on both doors?

Yes. I too have a drivers side door squeek. Taking note of this, I am.

Heard back from the seller, they'd already sent the kit before the message i'd sent had gotten to them (some crazy efficiency going on there, was about 10 mins between ordering and me sending them an email )

Apparently the kits are different for each door, gonna wait for the kit to turn up and see what's in it. Worst case i'll order a kit for the other door and do both of them

If you are going to order one of these kits make sure you get the right one
