Just monitoring my LG the last few days as I seen this thread, i am not sure if its the super cold weather or what but mine constantly sits between 77-80 while on the dash it reads 90.

What does this mean?

thermostats opening to early,

mine in the space of 3 months went frona LG temp of 88-90 to 69-70 yet the dash was at 90 all the time

replaced ther thermostat and it holds 90 on the lg and dash all day long now

new thermostat mate,, and id order a new oil dipstick tube because the original one always breaks since it becomes brittle

I do think it is down to the the weather on the motorway mine will hold 87.

Can you recall if it was higher before this coldness?

next time you're driving turn your interior temp down to 18, the engine temp will hit 90 with the heater on it does sit around 87-88

If mine stops holding 87 i will change it.

Poor mpg car really needs to be up near the 90 mark for it's best efficiency.

yup totally agree , mpg will be down, and the car wont perform as well, i noticed an obvious difference on how the car performed with a new stat fitted ;)

Yeah ECU is used to seeing 90, if it sees different temps the mixture will be wrong.

Just think of all those people running at 90 but really running at much less.

My cars an Ibiza, but would like to hear what you Leon guys think of this;
(mines a 1.8T by the way)

Since I purchased my car (about 2 years ago) - in the cooler months if I turned up the cabin temperature or went on the motorway, the dash temperature would drop from 90C.
If I hit traffic, it would rise back to 90C.

I knew it would be the thermostat opening too early, but put off the job for over a year - as it was fine in the summer months.

Anyway, I fitted a new thermostat (opens at 87C) about a month ago.
The temperature gauge reaches 90 a lot quicker, and stays there.

One thing I have noticed when I have finished driving is that the rad fans are going, this happens about 4 out of every 10 drives.
I always drive slowly about 3/4 miles before I finish driving so to not spool up the turbo.

I'm thinking this is probably normal & im being abit over cautious, but im half tempted to fit another thermostat.

hi guys,

I've just has some work done on my lcr which involved flushing the coolant and replacing it with fresh stuff. Just noticed that my Liquid Gauge temp is now reading between 95-98 once the car is warmed up and on the move and got up to 99 when i parked up but didn't go over that.

But my dash gauge still reads 90.

Do you think I have problems? What's everyone else's LG reading in this cold weather? It was minus 4 according to the ambient temp sensor.

Do you think it might be an air lock? How do you get them out?

Thanks,
Mandip.
