Hello again you knowledgable gits.

Once again my bloody 'biza has started playing up. It has been running like a dream since I had it put back on the road, serviced and had a new temperature sensor put in.

However today (a bloody friday at 5:30pm of all the times and days it could go wrong) it failed me [:@]

I hopped in and turned the key, as per normal. It fired up and cut out instantly. I tried again, giving it some revs... got it up to 5000rpm and it cut out again. It always turns over but cuts out after either removing foot off gas pedal or about 1 second full pelt.

I consult the holy haynes, and it gives the following suggestions -

* Loose or faulty electrical connections (ignition circuit)
* Vacuum leak at throttle body
* Blocked injector/fuel injection system fault.

Now, i cant see any wires around the top of the block that look loose or damaged, all the HT leads are fine. Where would I start on the throttle body?

Advice please? Anybody had same problem??

Yes mate, Pete is right, its either the pump relay or your coil is shot.

Not the Ignition coil? I'm being a prize plank here I know. I genuinely don't know enough to diagnose myself. Looking in the manual its all under the black circle behind the rear seats non?

PS Kat got her baby back....

Yes mate, your ign coil, located in the engine bay attached to the bulkhead under the passenger side, its a black box with a lead going to your distributor about 40 quid(ish) if I remember, The fuel pump relay is located in the fusebox behind your drivers cubby hole thing, look in the Haynes it will tell you which one, I cant remember off hand...

Lol, I was here looking for new fuel pumps on ebay.

I have a feeling it's not the coil, as it does actually start, but cuts out immediately like there is no fuel being fed. Fingers crossed this could be an easy fix (for a change). Will get a relay tomorrow and fit monday.....

Nice one guys

Well, now i'm left scratching my head. I acquired a new fuel pump relay, switched them over and it started!:clap::clap:

However, I tried the old one too and it still started.
As its technically a 'switch' could it just stick?

As for the immobiliser theory, surely it wouldn't have started at all? Ive had immob problems on a rover before and although the starter motor turns it just doesn't catch, as there is no fuel at all. Hmmmmmm

Northants.
Have you checked the condition and tightness of any rubber breather/vaccum hoses?
One of mine had come loose/lost it's seal - the engine would also start and then die.

the immobiliser runs through the fuel pump relay, and its your immobiliser thats cutting the engine after 2 seconds, after cutting power to the fuel pump
