Also i do have a toyota supra jap spec 3.0 n/a auto but not one insurer will insure me well they will but for £6000 lol And the only reson i got insured on my cupra k1 is because i had to build a garage on the side of my house to make sure it is secure lol it is a real piss take but im now very happy :)

Lol, that is funny, because it is cheaper to say your car is parked on the road. Fact.

If you dont mind me asking who are you insured with on your "K1" ?

Wow following this conversation about insuring in the UK... There was an episode of Top Gear about it..but you know, those things on there are made up alot of the time. I am reading insane insurance quotes over here... WTF.

In Holland insurance is not cheap. But they ony look at a: weight b: BHP c: type of car (price and options). The area you live in has some influence in the price but not more then 100/120 GBP per year.

For the record, i'm one of the younger ones - 24 year and now owning my Cupra for 1 year.

I've worked in insurance for two years now. Its sort of true depended on the underwriter. Its normally cheaper to be parked on the road compared to a drive as the only way to steal a car now'adays is to steal the keys and if its parked on the drive oh how lovely u know what house it belongs too. But this is also dependend on where you live for example if its a small cramped road I.e. A london side road or something your car is more likely to get clipped. Either way it basially depends on the underwriter and other various facts. Not to mention all the rating factors change every month if not sooner. This wasn't a dig benji, as you've been very kind and helped me out a ton. Just stating a fact :)p.s I don't think I'm all that because I work in insurance lol excuse the typos and I'm writing this from a cracked screen blackberry.

Also how old are you k1 driver, I've forgotten your name as I scolled down. If your my age then its virtually impossible to get insured on a k1 as I tried for a fr tdi and I was getting quotes of 3k and I have two years ncb. I appreciate we have diff information etc if your about 23ish 3k is probs about right depended on some other stuff :)

No worries atall :) It's just my insurance actually advised me to say it was parked on the road ( it is anyway) as apose to in the garage because they said the quotes are always cheaper. Maybe that was just that company, no idea why they were trying to make me a cheaper quote, but I thought it was pretty good of them :p

Ever since I have always told my friends to say its on the road and 9 times out of 10 its been around £150- 200 cheaper! They are all local though, so it is probably just the area we live in. ( Countryside, almost )

This is copied off another forum

TRY THIS... Half insurance for young drivers!

(Works best on drivers aged 17-22 with no convictions)

I am constantly reading threads about young driver struggling to get insurance. I always message them how I did mine and for most it has been successul.

Sooo.. i'm going to make this thread as a test to see how many people it works for. This is not fronting, it is on your own policy so you will gain your own NCB

1) Firstly get a quote for your car through a price comparison site, take the cheapest quote as the price to compare this test to!

Now, go to the admiral site: www.admiral.com and click 'One car quote'

Fill in the first page with your details,

Do not be tricked into saying your car is kept in a garage over night as this is the most expensive option, depending on your post code area select on a driveway or in the street (or if only one option is available to you chose that aslong as its not garaged)

Dont declare any modifications at this point (if you are sturggling to get insurance hopefully your car will be standard anyway)

Select immoblelizer only as this is cheaper than saying you have a fancy alarm system fitted!

(Basically they have realised people are selecting these options to try and bring their insurance down and therefore made them the most expensive)

Work out roughly how many miles you do per year just commuting, keep this to a minimum!

Your Job title also effects your insurance, I am a welder, I make large warehouses (tescos, cinemas and currently the Shard Hotel in london)

I selected (structural engineer apposed to fabricator as this dropped the price another £80)

Now for the most important part!

Select the option to add 3 named drivers to your policy!

You now to find 3 FEMALE drivers to add to the policy that have 15 years NCB and no convictions, if you cannot think of three then chose the amount that you can. You can literally use whoever you can think of, your mum, aunty, gran, mums friends. (this is the bit that will drop your insurance the most, nearly £1000 for me)

Are you a named driver on any other vehicle? e.g. a work van or maybe your familys pool car, this will bring the price down again just as much if not more than adding 3 female drivers.

I used my mum and my aunty, adding male drivers will more than likely push the price back up, if your dad or another male needs to be able to drive your car get them to check there own policy to see if allows them to drive other cars under 3rd party insurance (most do therefore no need to add them here)

Now, I insured myself as TPF&T as being a young driver any claim a made would push my insurance through the roof, so in the event of me totalling my car I have decided that I will split it for parts to earn my money back!

Also select the option of 10 month insurance as you will earn your no claims quicker this way (they give 1years no claims for both 10 and 12 month plocies)

Pay for your insurance in FULL as this avoids expensive charges for paying monthly

See what price you come up with, it depends on your post code area obviously but for me the overall drop from the cheapest price on a comparison site was £3000 to just over £1000.

REMEMBER
If your car is modified go back into the quote and check how much this effects your quote, I found that the price only changes for every 2 mods added, for example, an exhaust and lowering cost the same as the exhaust alone.

If the price goes up by alot, maybe you should think about taking the mod off, selling it and getting cheaper insurance at the same time, this way you can save up for something better once you have earned your no claims!

Some of that is rather good but there are tons of other stuff you can do! like milage rather than putting 10,000 put 9999 you still get effectively 10000 miles but at the price bracket of 9k. Also named drivers are depended. You can just add 3 name drivers and be like wallah its cheaper! it depends in your information ans there information not to mention the rating system the underwriter uses! try with and without nd try 1 2 or 3 dont just assume 3. Me personally in the insurance company i work in adding 3 name drivers is normally bad lol so it depends on the company. Me personally i have none as it worked out cheaper for me in particular. But good find dude :D

Also dont manipulate quotes too much as insurance companies can see you do this! We cancelled a policy due to expected fraudulent behaviour as the customer changed his occupation and other various things online about 50 times whilst he was with us. Remember underwriters aren't stupid. lol.

Couldn't you cancel your current policy, take the £50 charge or whatever it is and get the cheaper insurance?
