DSG on the motorway?

Can't seem to get used to driving this DSG on the motorway. Around town in D mode is fine, changes gear quickly and smoothly, not a problem.

But on the motorway, changing lanes, overtaking, etc. seems a bit of a nightmare TBH. Half the time when you get onto the motorway it only goes up to 4th gear, doesn't want to go any higher, put your foot right down to overtake and nothing happens. If you manually change down it just seems to rev and nothing happens?

Someone please tell me how this DSG box is supposed to work - thinking of selling the car already! :(

I love DSG on the motorway. I guess some people can't get on with it though! Good luck, stick it out they're awesome boxes.

No paddles no. Car is 2007 Leon 2.0 TDi DSG Stylance.

May have found the problem though, I had the car checked over by Autohaus in Edinburgh, VAG specialist and they found a charge pressure problem, could be a leak, a valve or at the worst the turbo is knackered. No wonder I can't overtake! They also said the flywheel is starting to go as well - great, I have bought a pile of crap.

I've spoken to the guy and he's not interested in helping at all, in fact he said if I contacted him again he'd sue me for harassement! What a ****. I asked for a full refund or some money back to help pay for the repairs as these things don't pop up overnight so must have been on the car when he sold it, quoted parts of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 which are relevant in this case - doesn't give a ****, not interested.

So I am faced with replacing the rear hub/bearing/ABS sensor, charge pressure problem which could be the turbo at worst and a failing flywheel. Roughly a grand in repair bills.

I really sorry to hear your troubles mates, it really smarts when you get ripped off.

That is the danger with the private sales though. I guess the car is technically roadworthy, so can legally be sold. Was it as described? Did you not notice issues in the test drive?

I'm not sure what redress there is on a private sale ad consumer rights are very limited. I hope it turns out to be cheaper fixes than you are fearing mate.

Nothing really on the test drive, but I'd never driven a DSG or a Mk2 Leon before so didn't really have anything to gauge it against, seemed ok though. Technically roadworthy yes, but had underlying issues not apparent until shortly after purchase.

It was advertised on Ebay so I have reported it to Ebay as the listing stated 'everything works' which is not the case, so technically it was misrepresented. The rear screen demister only clears half the window so that doesn't work properly either - I hate that!

2nd hand car, private sale, cash deal - not much I can do but I'll try.

with the attitude it sounds like he was waiting for your call!!

On the other hand i sold my audi a6 a few years back and the guy called me when he got home saying the engine management light came on, which it never had for me. Then never heard. I always felt guilty even though completely legit.

Wouldn't the management light come on when there are problems with the turbo?

The previous owner hasn't taken out the bulb has he? The EML comes on before you start the car, does it?

The light has come on yes, 2 weeks after I bought the car.

It is going in on the 12th to have the ABS fault fixed and they are going test the turbo etc. to identify the charge pressure fault, so I'll find out then if the turbo is knackered or not. I can get a rebuilt OE turbo for £275 so not that bad but just really hacked off buying a car with underlying issues.

If you can stretch it buddy. How much is a hybrid? Is there much difference?
While your replacing the turbo could be worth investing in a hybrid one.

That sucks, hope things work out for you. I was super pissed when I had an ABS pump fail on my car and had to spend over £600 to replace so I know how you feel.

Not buying a hybrid, not modifying any cars any more. I may just put the faults right and sell it on. Car seems to be in hard limp mode, won't rev past 3,000rpm and no power when you put your foot down. I cleared the EML (which was for overboost) but it still seems to be in limp mode.

Do you have the fault codes Rob?

Can't remember the code but it said overboost. Any time I try and go over 3000rpm it seems to cut the power and nothing happens when you press the accelerator from then on, makes overtaking impossible. Even coming to a hill you press the accelerator and nothing, you just start slowing down, drop it down a gear manually and it just revs but no power.
