I've got an Ibiza 1.6 TDI CR and was reading the manual and it says Diesel Engine 1.6 TDI CR 77kW (105CV) with/without DPF.
And in another page it says you can confirm if your car has dpf by checking the data label, and if it has PR 7GG or 7MG then it has DPF.
Mine is 7MQ, that means that my car doesnt have DPF right?

I think you will find that all mk5 Ibiza diesels sold in EU have a DPF fitted

What if your nearest dual carriageway is about an hour away. How do you get rid of the dpf light if it comes on? Or what would you do?

I would try to drive always above 2500rpm for 15 minutes to quickly raise the temperature of the DPF.
Never turn off the car or reduce the speed otherwise it will stop the process and it will make it worse and worse.
If you can't do it on your daily course then get some time and go the dual carriageway and push for the car, I usually put it in 4th above 2000rpm, respecting the speed limits, and turn on the cruise control, this way it will prevent dpf light and regenerations so if I need to do short journeys for a week I will not have problems with the dpf because it will be clean from the previous course I did.

But what if while I'm home (and an hour away from the nearest dual carriageway) the DPF light comes on. Will I be able to drive the hour to a dual carriageway to clear it out? Or will that do more harm to the DPF?

Well, if the light turns on you can't slow down below 60km/h or you're "screwed" pretty much. Take a look at first post of the topic and I think you'll learn everything about how the DPF works.

Try to never let the dpf light turn on, always prevent it by going to the highway to burn the soot from it.

That is not what the book suggests. The dpf regen happens fastest at around 2000 to 2200 rpm ( and above 38mph ) where the engine management has a process to change the fueling to heat up the DPF for regen purposes

Personally I drive around 2000rpm and let the cruise control do the rest. I said above 2500rpm to make it quicker but if you say its better between that range I will not oppose.
Less fuel being used too.

What a great thread. I have learnt such a lot about my 1.6tdi Ibiza. Many thanks guys.
I bought the car not really knowing all about the diesel/dpf issue thinking that as I do long distances fairly regularly all would be well.
I now what to do should any issues arise. Cheers. :funk:

I have a FR 184 Diesel & am sick of the stupid DPF. I am seriously considering having it taken out as cant afford to switch it for a petrol.

Am I right in saying that as long as the Filter Housing is left in place it will still pass an MOT. What about emissions after it has been taken out ?

It is a shame cos is a cracking car if not for this damn DPF !!!

I suggest you put this in the LEON threads.

BUT

Speak to Will at P.Torque ( sponsor )

He was doing DPF removal & remap on the 2.0TDi CR motors.

They were showing very healthy power figures plus emissions clean enough to easily pass the MOT test.

Guys I am a working mummy who does many short trips around town with hardly any out of town/motorway driving. Garage I bough my 2010 ibiza tdi cr sport from 2 years ago did not question my driving habits before taking my 9 grand off me. I love my car. Had many many regens and issues getting local garages to reset. Paid for a new egr valve to be replaced last week and now a software update this week as had more engine light issues. Its so frustrating £875 spent and im paranoid to drive it tomorrow !.. still got 1200 left on a loan and 8m to pay. What advice do u suggest. Should I try to trade in for a petrol car or just blast it once a week somewhere? Cheers :)

Hi.

I think your best bet is to give it a good run every week or so. I am in exactly the same position with my leon but it will cost me too much to swap it, I also really like the car.

I go for a 20 mile drive when ever I think the filter is getting blocked.

I bought mine new and the salesman never mentioned the potential dpf problems.

Take care.

Thanks. It is difficult trying to find extra time just for driving just for the sake of it. Busy mums life means not much free time.. shame I didn't read up on problems before being dazzled by the lovely shiny car in the first place lol.. Thanks to whoever invented the dpf filter! Spot the sarcasm...

Yep - been told the same.

The only time you can claim warranty on a dpf is for a manufacturing defect in the housing or a sensor failure within the warranty period.

Everything else will be blamed on your driving style.
Terrible how a load of cars & customers are having these problems and they just are happy for us to feel utterly let down and chat among forums like this about our collective issue.. I have considered trading mine in for a petrol engine ibiza but tbh this whole issue has put me off ever getting another seat !..

I agree. My wife works away and is away for 6 months of the year. I therefor spend much of my time as a single dad. It is stupid that a device fitted to a car to reduce emissions forces you to drive for the sake of it just to keep the filter clean. At the same time producing emissions. As for seat I agree, mine spend 6 separate days in the garage just to fix a faulty fuel gauge. Initially they said they just don't know why it was reporting no fuel but didn't see it as a problem.

Shame as I like the car.

Hope you get sorted.

Hi. Did u ever get an answer on this from the person u were going to ask. I messaged the company sinspeed to ask for a quote on dpf removal for my ibiza. Also whether removing it would affect the £30 road tax or insurance since I would say it was a modification. However that was only last night ive not heard from them yet.. im in the Dundee area so no idea if there is anywhere close by that could do this...
