Blanking EGR valve

Could someone give me any advice if this is a good worthwhile thing to do?
I have heard stories off EGR valves getting blocked and causing more issues than they are worth. Would it be good to blank it to stop the crappy exhaust gasses being filtered back through the engine and is it a costly/time consuming thing to do?
Also how much would a tuning company charge to map out the EGR so there is no engine management light?
This is for a Ibiza 2.0 tdi 2011 with 42000 miles
Thanks

The 1.9 TDI was very vulnerable to this, as the hot sooty exhaust was fed straight into the inlet tract which was full of oily crankcase vapours. The resulting sludge coked up the inlet manifold and eventually stopped the EGR valve from closing (which it is programmed to do as revs rise) so letting in too much exhaust pressure and causing overboost and limp mode......

The whole EGR system is a pollution control device required (when you research it a bit) by Callifornian state legislation. This drives the US regulators, and so the whole global car industry, even if most of us don't live in a place that the original inhabitants called "Bad air bay". I find the whole idea of making the engine breath its own exhaust so foul that I will disable or wind back EGR as far as possible - and I don't agree with the Californicators idea of targeting individual pollutants without considering the overall effect. Over the life of the car, EGR will result in far more soot and CO emission than it will ever save in NOx, and that's before you think of the combination of NOx and HCO emissions - which combine in unusual ways to result in *less* overall pollution from highway vehicles... But I digress

Your 2011 car will be a CR engine I guess, with a crossflow head and cooled EGR system, and a long pipe from the Exhaust tap to the EGR valve. All this means that the coking up is minimised (except on start, where the cooling system is bypassed to help the engine warm up faster, God help us).

All of which means: Yes, it is worthwhile :)

I will recite every word of this to my gf to convince her that I need to blank the EGR and in turn it also requires a remap... Meaning more POWER

But really thanks for a good explanation on what it is and why it's such a terrible idea to have them

My Egr is deleted, on the last MOT we did an emissons test, and the mechanic was like,

''ive seen new cars with higher emissions''

I had it done a couple of weeks later along with a remap. Best thing I've done. Only thing is I need a new clutch cos of the remap

I removed the EGR on my other halfs car but left in the shudder valve, it's an 03. Threw up the EML but got rid of it via vagcom
