Hi all, anyone else taken their car in for the diesel update and airflow sensor modification? Took mine in January and since the work was done she runs like a dog. Really lumpy especially when you take your foot off accelerator and turbo stops spinning. Fuel economy is shocking now too, do a mixture of town and dual carriageway driving, used to average 46-50mpg from brim to brim, now I'm lucky if I get 38mpg. Anyone else had similar issues? Any advice on improving situation. Friend of mine drove his car from the VW garage and engine light came on, EGR valve is knackered, VW say it's nothing to do with update but it seems a bit suspicious. I imagine Seat will say the same regarding my issues. Thanks

Loads of people complaining, join this facebook group and prepare to be upset about the many injector/egr and other failures following the update.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/955027937948541/

My seat dealers did mine without my consent when it went in for some diag work under warranty, they claimed they had to do the update to avoid a diag. charge and they were doing me a favour.

My car ran worse and was doing at least twice as many re-gens.

I've since had a stage 1 map from Shark Performance and it's running miles better with a lot more poke now... hopefully I will be ok for a while yet, fingers crossed.

Mines not been too bad. Little judder below 2000 rpm with light throttle, fuel economy is better for me though. I agree with the turbo and the lumpy engine when you take your foot off but I keep the revs high so its not that noticeable.

I have always had shell or shell v-power in mine, nothing less as it didn't like supermarket fuel before the fix, i dare not try it now.

I would suggest a couple of tanks of v power and maybe some fuel additive to really clean the engine out, or a terraclean. Then get just a remap, most are based off the old fueling and are tuned properly anyway, people have said this solves most issues.

If you read up I don't think that v-power or anything will help long term if what they say is true as they have increased injection and EGR usage and which causes more soot and more regens for whatever reason. Check your oil level too to make sure you're not getting diesel in the oil, some more info here.

https://www.hypermiler.co.uk/diesel...particulate-filter-in-your-vw-audi-skoda-seat

I've been monitoring my DPF regens pre-remap (but post emissions fix) and after the remap the distance between regens has more than doubled.

I've always used v-power or costco premium derv in mine also and will continue to do so and am probably going to change oil min. every 10k even on the long life stuff.

Don't want to go near a dealers ever again if I can help it.

VAG have really made a complete balls up with this emissions "fix" software update. Of course they are going to say there are no adverse impacts with mpg, power or anything else after applying the update. They lied about the emissions in the first place so why would you believe them now? Once a liar always a liar.

Have a read of this. There are literally hundreds of comments under the article from owners which tell the real truth about how the "fix" has now ruined their cars...

And it's not just the Europeans who are complaining left, right and centre. Our friends down under are also up in arms about the whole fiasco...

There is no legal requirement in the UK to have the emissions "fix" applied and the government aren't offering any incentives for doing so (or penalties for not doing so), so I'm not sure why anyone would get it done voluntarily unless it is purely for ecological and environmental reasons, but if that is the case then those people should really be looking at getting a hybrid car instead. All the risk of having the "fix" applied is with the customer and none of it is with VAG. Don't think that VAG are going to help you out if you later find you need to replace your EGR valve or DPF filter due to premature failure because of the "fix" making those components work much harder than they used to.

I would even go as far to say that any cars which have not had the emissions fix applied may actually turn out to be worth more than the cars that have due to all the post-fix issues that have come to light.

My car isn't broken so it's not getting "fixed" and I'll be doing everything in my power to make sure that no-one goes anywhere near my engine ECU with any software updates. My car goes in for a service next week and I have already drawn up an agreement for the dealer to sign stating that they will not apply any ECU software updates to my car. A template of that agreement is HERE for anyone interested in case they decide to do the same. It is now just going to be a complete PITA because every time I need to get any work done on my car I'm going to have to go through this nonsense of having the dealer / VAG specialist sign one of these agreements.

Also, VAG aren't permitting dealers to roll back the software "fix", so once it's been applied there is no way back to the previous software version (at least not through any official channels). In this scenario your only option is to get the car remapped by an independent mapper who will be able to fix VAG's emissions "fix".

Interestingly some people on that Facebook group are also saying a remap doesn't completely fix it there's a lot of conflicting advise or evidence no one seems to be able to say 100% for sure.

After shark did my stage 1 post 'fix' though my car is 100% better.

Be interesting to see how it plays out and if VAG are forced to do anything else, the buy back in the states and the fields and fields of VAG cars just now sat there doing nothing is crazy!

Well, there has been an interesting recent new development in the US. See link below...

https://www.engadget.com/2017/03/30/volkswagen-can-sell-some-diesel-cars-in-the-us-again

If our friends in the US have been following the emissions fix software fiasco across the rest of the world then no-one in their right mind will touch those "fixed" cars with a bargepole.

I would be very surprised if we ever got any type of compensation or buy back in the UK. The government are too much in bed with the car manufacturers and oil companies. As usual, the we have just ended up getting completely shafted.

This is my understanding.
VW designed a diesel engine that could be either efficient or clean but not both at the same time.
They knew that if configured to pass the emissions test the engine would not meet customer expectations of performance.
So they set up the engine, DSG and advertising for maximum performance and applied a software mod that identified the emissions test conditions, set the engine to run cleanly for the test and then revert back to performance mode when the test was finished.
Job done, everyone happy/fooled :fool:massive management bonuses all round!
But they were found out!!! :cop::redface:
They have been forced to configure all new tdi engines to run permanently in clean mode and agreed to recall all affected cars to do the same. :yelcard:
The recall removes the cheat but doesn't change the basic design of the engine.
Gut instinct growls that, despite VW's assurances ('well they would say that wouldn't they' - Mandy Rice-Davis), performance and efficiency would suffer as a result of the recall. :(
Customer feedback overwhelmingly confirms this suspicion!!! :thumbd::mad::crash::redcard:
Nothing new I know. Aah...but I feel so much better!
