Facelift build quality

I've had the FR184 SC nearly 2 years and although I am happy with it, my circumstances have changed a lot since I ordered it.

Considering changing and one of the possibles is a new Leon. Would be a Cupra 300.

Just wondering how people are getting on with the 17 car. Do the doors still rattle ? Anything else anybody wants to share, especially if you've gone from a pre facelift to a post fl car. And if you are in a Cupra 300.

Thanks

Interesting. Insurance quote to change from the FR to a 300 is no change, £0. :)

Facelift leon has the radar in the front with the crash protection thingy which reduces the insurance premiums. I went from pre facelift 1.2 se dynamic technology to the facelift 1.4 fr when it first came out and imho it's a definite step up. I didn't have the se long enough to generate any rattles or anything as for bored very quickly. As a quick comparison though the build quality does appear to have gone up a notch, it just feels more solid. New colour changing ambient lighting in the cockpit is good although footwell are always white but can be changed (unfortunately not 501 bulbs anymore though). Headlights are improved and integrated running lights and indicators a pretty cool. New infotainment unit is betyer with the menu all being touch screen as opposed to the multitude of buttons on each side of the screen.

There's probably more but as I said a definite step up imo.

I've gone form a 64 reg (my15 1.2tsi tech pack) to a Cupra 300 facelift, no build probs with my 1.2 - except a cracked rear light needing swapping under warranty. The facelift Cupra aside from more tyre noise is pretty much no difference. Not sure where the changes have gone but they are pretty much invisible to me.

Never had any rattling doors on my 1.2 64 plate, without wanting to tempt fate I'm hoping Seat resolved this on production well before my facelift Cupra. I'd always assumed my15 onwards were much improved - at least mine was?

I've never had another Leon to compare to, but I can tell you that the door cards rattle (esp passenger side) and also the passenger seat rattles if you pump it right down low. Taking it up one level gets rid.

The wing mirrors also whistle over 35mph.

Other than that it's great and much better build quality then the Ibiza which is to be expected I suppose.

Dealers will fix door rattles under warranty and the same goes for the whistle from the wing mirrors - it is a know fault and an easy fix.

I've gone from a 280 5 door to a 300 ST and without exception everyone I've taken in it has said how much nicer the 300 is to look at and drive in. Everything seems more solid somehow and the ride is smoother with less road noise. It's done nearly 6k and no rattles etc have come to light yet. Was doing some obd11 coding on a friend's prefacelift FR the other day and it felt really low rent which surprised me as I'd never felt that about my 280 when I had it.
And as an aside the new front LED headlights are markedly better.

I've a late 2016 FR1.4 ACT, done 5k. So far so good. No door rattle or whistle (tried it up to 90 mph) if something it's a bit too quite, wish it had a bit more engine/exhaust noise ....

They will try to fix it, but won't have much joy. At least that was my experience.

I had one rattle from the passenger side back door - it took them half an hour and it has been gone since...

Mine is a 2016 290 ST. It has done 20k miles without any problems other than a rattle from the passenger side back door, which the dealer fixed in half an hour.

Road noice is extremely dependent on tires. My summer tires are nearing the end of their life span and they make quite a bit of noice now - they did not in the beginning.

I'm in on Monday for its 2nd year service so I will be asking a few questions. Also had a quote on Carwow for the colour and spec. So we will see.

Tried a 300 today. ST in Blue with Leather.

I like the engine. Its refined and fairly quiet. The poke is there but it is very smooth. And its happy being asked to pull from low down. Petrol obviously quieter.

Manual box very similar to my FR. Feels the same but the throw is shorter.

Thought the ride was very good. I know the ST has a longer wheelbase but it felt softer in Cupra than the FR. And very nice indeed in comfort.

All in all its a very nice bit of kit. Noticed 1 rattle from the rear seats but that could have been the salesmans jacket or something.

Has anyone ever had any issues when they have collected their Leon?

What's the wing mirror fix? A always thought the wind noise was just poor quality door seals

As I recall it is related to a missing or faulty sealant on the underside of the wing mirrors. There should not be any significant wind noice - but of course there is quite some road noise depending on the tires and the road surface. At least that is my experience on a 290 ST.

True. Multiple trips to dealer to fix the problems but zero problems solved. Rattles everywhere, door cards, behind the seats, in the trunk. Mine is fully loaded 2017 FR DSG 184, beautiful car, zero stuff to brag about besides the rattles. Since the dealer made zero progress on the problems Golf GTI Performance Pack FL is on order with expected delivery in late March.
Was thinking of Cupra too, but considering the problems with the FR it’s a no from me.

It's early days for me as I have only had mine for 10 weeks but there are no rattles and very little wind noise at speed, Having owned a Mk2 Leon from new a few years back, I can say that in terms of build quality the Mk3 17 is a country mile ahead........ of course things may change!
