As above I'm looking for some info/help I have just had my Leon fr 2010 with 95000miles in for cambelt and water pump change, I was then asked when my car last had dsg oil change? where will I find this as in services it didn't show? When he changed the belt I had to change the engine mounts as the previous owner had stripped the originals was a kick in the teeth adding more money but I was going to lower by 30mm but when the wheel was off I seen yellow apex springs fitted googled the part number and walah it's already lowered 35mm . All in all cost me £490 for cambelt water pump engine mount and 2 new wiper blades, I want a major service next to get on top of everything with the car was quoted £250 for the service and £150 for the dsg oil is this ok?

DSG needs to be done every 40k, if there's no service receipts of it with the car I would say that isn't good news lol.

£150 is good yes, I've seen some places put it up to £200 now for a DSG filter and oil service.

Real noob question I know it's every 40000 but would it be in the service book as at 44000 it has miles ticked? Same time as last cambelt and water pump change?

If you have the genuine Seat service book that came with the car, in the bottom left it says DSG oil and filter change with YES/NO tick box.

I don't know about anybody else but I keep all receipts of work carried out on the car as well though.

If the DSG box isn't ticked yes and there's no receipts then I would guess they never got it done, the car should have had 2 by now though.

Mine doesn't say that here is what I have at the front of the book it has the date it is the original it come with looks like dsg oil change is next. I have it booked in at the garage I bought it from maybe I can convince them to do it as it keeps blowing white smoke from the exhaust every so often.

Mine looks completely different to that.

Does it not have the Additional tasks pages at the front of the book that tells you different intervals for different vehicles?

Like at Every 60,000KM (40,000 miles) at the top it says Change oil and filter for DSG.

The smoke won't have be anything to do with the DSG but I'm guessing its an official dealer or VAG indy if they can do a DSG service?

If there's no evidence in paper work of a DSG service ever being done at 95k miles on the car they should of done it before selling it, I'd kick up a fuss and get them to do it, especially if it is a Seat dealer.

Bugger.... No sign in my book of ever been done too.. I'm on 61,300 miles, looks like it's on the to-do-list.

But why do these gearboxes need oil change when a manual doesn't....?

I believe it's just to stop it wearing the box I know my Merc had it done last service and felt alot smoother

The service book for my 2010 CR170 DSG is the same; there's no tick box for the DSG oil change on any of the service record pages. If you speak to SEAT UK they should be able to tell you about any work your car has had done at any of their dealers.

As said £150 is good for the DSG oil change if they're using genuine VW oil as that's expensive stuff.

As for the major service I'd find out exactly what they're doing as £250 seems a bit steep (unless it's a SEAT dealer). In terms of replacement parts the only extra things from a simple oil change / minor service to a major service on the CR170 is the fuel filter, air filter and pollen filter which is all cheap and easy stuff. The bulk of the extra work on a main dealer major service is a much more comprehensive check and inspection and I'm honestly not sure how much of that an independent garage would do.

But why do these gearboxes need oil change when a manual doesn't....?

The gear oil becomes contaminated with clutch material as the 02E DSG box is a wet clutch design that uses a single oil system for everything. The filtering system is pretty good at grabbing the larger particles so the oil stays good for a while. The services make sure there's fresh oil being cycled in.

Okay - I've just seen in your signature you have a Mk3 Leon 1.2 DSG... which is probably an 0CW DSG gearbox. That's a 7 speed dry clutch design so you won't need the 40k changes with that one. As well as being a dry clutch design it has separate oil systems for the mechatronics and the gears so it uses a standard manual gear oil.

Double check for sure which box you have though...

Should be £199 at a SEAT dealer now. They introduced a fixed price for this a while back.

Interesting that the servicing costs differ between VAG brands. The servicing costs are obviously part of the overall brand position and value metric for each individual brand in the group.

£175 at Skoda, £184 at VW and £225 at Audi

I asked why it was so much when I had it done and was told it was because the labour charge is high. The oil temp has to be stone cold apparently so it goes up on a ramp and sits their consuming workshop space until the oil temp is cold so it can be drained.

Oh dear, they sound like the kind of place that gives main dealers a bad reputation.

The servicing guide does say the gearbox oil should be under 50 °C before proceeding with the service and to let the vehicle cool if needed, but it certainly doesn't need to be stone cold and there’s no reason it has to sit on a ramp or lift in the workshop to cool. It’d be perfectly fine to leave it to cool outside and then move it onto a ramp. The temperature is not going to rise much from that.

The oil level should then be set with the oil between 35 °C and 45 °C which is not an issue when it’s just had approx 5.5 litres of cool oil added.

To be honest they are normally good with me, you don’t see many Cupra’s around where I live (actually I’ve only seen three, one of them is mine and one is one of my friends) so you kind of get remembered when you go in there.

It’s beyond my knowledge to question them further so I just accepted what they was telling as gospel and had them do it. They are a couple of VAG specialists around here though so if it needs doing again I may take it to one of them.

Judging by the black watery filth that came out of my gearbox, manual definitely needs to be changed every so often
