It worked for 10 min and then said invalid data...

restoring the backup and seeing if it's not broken broken... bit absurd you have to pay to update the maps.

Probably the person that messed their Mib1 card above did something more which stopped them fully restoring the system back again. I locked myself out of my mib2 plus for a month :). It times out after a while if it doesnt like you messing with the files... Sounds similar.

I have tried to fit a sat nav into my 2017 model alhambra and had nothing but problems. I bought out of a car that had been broken took it to seat af5er fitting aerial etc plugged it in an obviously it was component protected. On way to seat nav worked and routed etc but with security protection no sound. Seat managed to pair to my car and remove security protection but since then the nav dies not work all other features work very well ie dab etc etc. All it says now on the media system is the navigation data in the infotainment system us not valid. Surely Somone can help. Arrgghh

You may need something to be activated with VCDS, after updating my firmware/software I lost the Mirrorlink function but had Apple Carplay and Android Auto but reset something in the 5F module and it's back. I would advise against using a Seat dealer to remove CP etc, it's better to go to someone who specialises in this sort of thing.

That is normal, when CP is taken off you have to pay for navigation to be put back on, it clears the license off like a fresh install. That's something that has to be done on the garage's factory linked equipment, not Vagcom. They might ask for money... you may need a specialist.

There are threads around on the subject.

Was it the basic model or navigation plus, Mib2?. The ones bought like yours offer the maps to be upgraded for free if they are the Plus units. Not sure whether they are hacked or if licensed circumvent the need for Mapcare. They do it via the SWDL command but will cause havoc on a unit without Mapcare if you try a full update. See back a year or so when I had one attempt.

PS Walones interests are the same as mine :). You haven't got the maps updated yet ?. I'm going to have another go soon once the dust has settled from moving.

Out of interest, has anyone looked into the difference in code between a unit with mapcare and one without?
Not really sure I took both units with me to both seat and another specialist seat said because sat nav had never been fitted to the car in build stage if could not accept it

No I'm still on the original 2015/2016 0122 version. That's the next thing I think because of the problems with getting 'destination' numbers when entering postcodes with an 'X' in them.

Ahh didn't notice that you didn't have satnav when built. I would suggest contacting one of the specialist retrofitters.

I'm hoping the ignore signatures command will work as it does on the POIs which gives you a way of fiddling with the upload but here I'm assuming it's just the serial number that is locked to the unit. Fiddling with that I'm hoping it may work... other than that I'm out of ideas apart from making it a retrofit unit. I'm getting increasingly aware of old maps with missing roads and roundabouts !. Thank you Seat for your lack of vision and penny pinching.

I did contact someone a while ago to ask how much to modify my unit so that I could install maps myself and he said about £200 that included the latest software etc.

I contacted a company in South London about 18 months ago that claimed they were VAG specialists could turn the unit into a Skoda with Mapcare etc as per their advert. They didnt want to know. Looked hopefull.

Another hopefull advert was to get Mapcare from a Seat garage in Germany. Again they didnt want to know when contacted. Can you ring back on Friday when the man is in... sounded like a little side business. I checked their order number with Seat and it wasn't a Seat part number, couldn't find it on the WWW. That one was expensive about £600.

Gave up with both of those. Still on DIY.

The engineering menu with the long press should give you a different set of codes. Those are the license codes.

Some information here

https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30577

I'd assume Mapcare is one of them, it's also a build code. So missing any navigation means you haven't got a SWaP code for it and you need ODIS to enable the license.

I did try on a Golf board once giving mine but they said we dont recognise those.... when I was trying to identify which was the Mapcare one. Seat and VW SWaP codes are different.

Another related thread

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forum...r-Pro-MIB-hack-navi-activation-and-cp-removal

Dark arts cost money and I personally wouldn't send a unit costing £1,000 or so to someone I don't know.

vw did well with the security on these units.

i realized its not that any unit wont work in the car it`s that they have control over who has what unless hacked.
literally a certain vin range.

maybe the thefts of rns-510 was a wakeup call for them. :roflmao:either way though why should vw dictate what i can install after all i have bought and paid for the car.

as usual, the actions of a few effect the many.

My last car, Skoda Octavia had a stream mp3 which for an elegance version looked naff. My 2007 car took a 2012 brand new bolero unit, looked much nicer, touch screen and SD card reader. Lost the ability to see parking sensors, but still beeped, no climate control popped up and it was dim until you put your lights on. Only an issue in the summer and a quick flick of the sides sorted it. All that was needed was a 4 digit code!

And if I had the cash, both the parking sensor display and climate control could be had, but it wasn't worth it.

Like you, it seems annoying that you have to really jump through hoops to upgrade. Alpine have the right idea, their unit has no sat-nav, you use your phone. Come on VAG, most people have a decent enough phone so just give us a screen and a dum unit with mirror link
