Hi all,

Been searching on here for the past hour, nothing for a 1.6 petrol Altea 54 plate with a P0118 thermostat error. After a lot of googling it seems like a good pace to start but where the hell is it located on the engine?

Thanks.

That's the moment, when modelyear and engineID (3-4 characters, like BSF, BMM) become sort of important ...
without knowing that, I'd suggest the coolant temperature sender, that seems to match much better for ALTEAs throughout all modelyears for the 1.6 petrol engine:
06A 919 501 A
because (if you google the partno for pictures), this one has a black cap and only 2 pins, while the 059919501A is green and has 4 pins.

PS: vehicle ident number (like VSSZZZ5PZ5Rxxxxxx) tells you the modelyear (5 = 2005)

You should find these codes either printed or as a sticker in your inspection/service booklet:

(above you see my 2006 Altea 2.0FSI with BLR motor = engineID)

Yep you were correct, I got the wrong part with 4 pins not 2.

Looks like BGU engine, would 06A 919 501 A be the correct part?
