Soundaktor Disconnected - Bliss!

So, as some of you may already know from my ramblings on this forum, I’ve recently had a resonator delete fitted to my Cupra 300 DSG.

The one and only downside I found was that the soundaktor was just making the car far too noisy inside, especially as I have the car permanently in Cupra mode (but with the normal gearbox). This became more apparent when I went on a long motorway trip last weekend.

I stumbled across a few threads regarding the soundaktor, and to my surprise I found out that it is incredibly simple to deactivate without having to go through ODBEleven or similar. I know that this topic has been discussed previously but I thought I’d post a couple of photos just to show how easy it is, in case any of you are in the same boat! Now all I have is the sweet, sweet NATURAL sound of an unresonated exhaust

1. Open the bonnet.

2. Remove the rubber strip at the bottom of the plastic tray underneath the windscreen:

3. Remove the three metal clips which hold the plastic tray in place (I used some needle nose pliers):

4. Pull up the foam stuff (yes, technical term). There are 2 plastic clips which can be insterted back afterwards:

5. Reach under the plastic tray and locate the soundaktor box (it’s in the driver side corner and it says soundaktor on the top!).

6. Pull the connector out of the soundaktor box.

7. Replace the foam, then the three metal clips, then finally the rubber strip.

Congratulations. You now have an interior which doesn’t sound like a PlayStation game every time you put your foot down..!!

Obviously, it’s just as easy to reconnect it should you wish to do so.

I’ve just taken mine for a quick drive and the difference is fantastic. I can still hear the exhaust but it’s out the back, where it should be..! More importantly, it makes absolutely no difference to how the car sounds from the outside

I muted mine although I don't have a nice exhaust like you or the matching engine under the bonnet. I still would prefer my diesel not to sound like something it isn't

To be honest, I probably would have kept it connected had I not had the resonator delete fitted... It was just a bit too much noise with the two things together! It sounds lovely now

I just don't understand them on a CUPRA... it doesn't need to try and sound fast, it already is.

Turned mine off with Carista, best thing I ever did

I'd love to actually hear what one of these soundaktors are like, as I don't have one fitted to my 2016 184FR!!

Are you sure? I thought most modern turbocharged cars had one..?

If you don’t, you’re really not missing much! All they do is pump artificial exhaust noise through the cabin (by using the windscreen as a kind of amplifier!). I think what bothers me the most about them is the fact that you KNOW that the noise you’re hearing is falsely amplified..

Would you say the resonator delete is too loud when driving through built up areas and towns etc?? Contemplating buying one but don’t want it to be too loud and irritating when driving with drone and what not. Cheers.

It's much better now that the soundaktor has been disconnected.

The res delete is louder, but when I'm just driving 'normally' I hardly notice it, apart from a slightly more throaty exhaust note. It's still quiet if I'm driving around town and it doesn't drone. It's noisy when it needs to be ie. When you put your foot down..!

It's also noisier on a cold start but settles down after a minute or so.

My advice to you would be to go for it and have the res delete done. At the end of the day (provided you keep the original resonator) it's easily reversible and you could easily sell the res delete on if you didn't like it

Thanks for the reply, wish I could change my name! Now have a Cupra 300 SC and want a res delete on it but I’ve heard that at certain speeds there is a blatant drone noise, wouldn’t bother me too much as don’t go on the motorway all that often but would prefer if it was limited, but beggars can’t be choosers I suppose!

I also want new tail pipes, quad tips like your Akrapovic ones that you had (at least I think that was you!) but probably not going to fork out that much for those, but yeah quad tips of some sort. Not sure how to go about it as I find it a bit complicated and if I go to a garage (again not sure which one because I want an excellent job of it) I’m not sure if I would explain everything right!

deanoj1971 pointed me in the direction of alibaba.com for some Akrapovic tips

I didn't end up buying any though as there were lots to choose from and I wasn't sure which ones would fit my 300...

IbizafrSY4... there should be a few exhaust specialists round your way maybe powerflow etc, they should have some quad tips that you could choose from as well, and you could also try eBay.. your the customer so if you explain what you want doing they will listen to you, you just have to trust these people sometimes they have probably done what you are asking them to do a few dozen times.. I a bit ocd when it comes to this sort of thing especially to my car so just have a little faith you won’t regret it.
