Bocanegra Misfire.

Hello everyone,

I brought my 2011 Bocanegra in February 2018 and all seemed well for the first 4 months the car is on finance and brought from a respectable dealer.

After the first 5 months when I was returning from a trip away in the car I noticed the car seemed to shudder all of a sudden when I tried to accelerate and my engine management light and EPC light came on.

I took the car back to the garage I had it from and they ran a diagnostic check of the car and at first nothing came back all seemed fine. They ran it again after taking the car for a drive and it was coming back with a misfire in cylinder 1.

They couldn't repair it so it was sent to a German vehicle specialist they ran a diagnostic and compression tests and came to the same conclusion and said it would need all 4 injectors replacing for a large sum of money.

I reported this to the finance company as I had only had the car a few months they send an independent engineer to check the car ( To make sure I was telling the truth ) he looked at the car saw the engine management light was on and said that was all he needed to see.

I then got a decision from the finance comaoco saying that the problem was not present at the point of sale and they couodnco do anything to help. The garage I brought the car from only offered 3 months warranty which had expired.

The car had all coils and spark plugs changed and had the fault codes reset and seemed to work. But now a few weeks later the lights are back along with the shudder.

Just wanted some advice as I do not have the money to replace the engine as I have looked at some similar cases and that seems to be the only solution.

Before anything else check your coil pack harness for cracks or exposed wires. Monkeys in garages often yank these wires too hard when changing plugs, which can cause misfires. Did you see the plugs that came out?. Always worth asking to keep the old plugs for inspection.

So... if it's a misfire on cylinder 1. Surely only 1 injector needs replacing? Don't know how close you are to them, or if there's somewhere similar that does the same service. But R-tech do an injector clean n test for £120. Ok, they may conclude your still stuffed. But... if it turns out you only need 1, you've saved 1/4 of the price. Realistically if the compression test passed (doesn't test injectors), the engine should be fine. For my FR+ I think it was £600 I was quoted for a full set of injectors (fitted). But didn't need them in the end!

Update.

The car has been tested by another specialist and they are saying it has a misfire in 1 and 3 now and that it either needs new injectors a new ECU or a simple software update by seat.

OP, I just don't have any experience of knowledge of these twinchargers, but, as your car is a 2011 car, does it still have its original CAVE engine in it?

Maybe contact SEAT UK and ask for a full breakdown of all work carried out on that car within the SEAT dealership network, it could be possible to get a faulty engine sorted out FOC by SEAT as they know the issues that these engines suffered in Cupras, Polo GTIs and Fabia VRS - of course that will only be necessary if it turns out that your engine has serious problems.

Edited to change the engine type from a cheap fizzy wine to the correct early and problematic engine code which should have been CAVE and not CAVA!!

I have got to call the dealership in the morning and ask about taking it in so will ask if they can provide that information for me

I will have a look at all wires before I send it to seat. Thanks for the tip

A garage had quoted me for 1 injector and the price wasn't to bad but the said they are not 100% sure that replacing it would solve the problem they reset the fault codes and all seemed ok for a while.

Remember not to be put off by the "data protection" crap, you are not needing to know any details of any previous owners, just the history of your car and the data protection act does not protect cars!

Did you manage to fix this? I have this problem currently
