How do you know which version you have?
The details are inside the plastic box it came in ( At the top left hand side), also at the back of the box it shows tom tom, and another 2 systems.

Hi,

Sorry to ask a question on a old thread but if I have my original seat SD card can I buy any SD card and upload the new maps and just copy the relevant file from my original card do the duplicate card can be used or will that not work.
Just s little frightened to delete the data from the original card.

If you have an MIB2 system then what you need to do is :

1) copy ALL of the files from your existing card to a safe place, most importantly the overall.nds file

2) make a second copy just in case.

3) download the new navigation files and unzip them.

4) delete the existing files from your sd card (you did do steps 1 and 2 didn't you? )

5) copy the new navigation files to your sd card.

6) copy the old overall.nds file from step 1 onto your sd card, overwriting the newer downloaded file.

Your MIB2 unit is coded to some hidden data on your existing sd card. You can't just buy a fresh one from amazon and use it. It also relies on the overall.nds file which is why you need to copy it back.

Thanks mate, that’s what I wanted to clear up. Much appreciated!

Spoken to SEAT UK today to clear this up aswell. MIB2 units can download the latest maps from the website and use the method above. MIB1 units need to purchase a new SD card for £91 which then allows us to download any new maps onto it like the MIB2 units so the £91 is basically a life time map licence

Did they mention that you have to pay a stealership £36 to pair the new SD card to your MIB1 unit or is that no longer necessary?

As it cost me over £120 plus an hour wait at my local dealership to get my car’s 5 year old maps up to date back in January but if I can download new maps to that paired SD card in the future then that’ll mitigate the cost!

Nope they just said I just insert the new sd card, nothing about extra costs at the stealers, then he said any future updates just download off the website. I'll let you know when I go in and get one. If they do say theres an extra charge then the convo with head office is logged and I wont be paying it

So having just picked up my car this weekend, my media system has the following:

Device Part Number: 5F0035858A
Hardware: 041
Software: 0425

So looks like I need to grab the 0480 file to do the system update.

The packaging in my glovebox for the SD card for the Nav shows V5, as far as I can tell this dates back to 2014/15, so I'm going to need to contact Seat to get an update I guess.

I'd be interested to know what they say. I want to update the maps, but don't have time to book in the car.

Tom, how did you get on with this please? Would love to update my very old v4 card in my 63 plate if I know it is just a one off cost.

Yes let us know Tom. You'll be updating with the MIB1 updates if it works. I never publish those on the thread since I thought the subject was dead on MIB1 map updates.

The old trusty thread:

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/navigation-system-updates.388586/page-92

Although it could be a dealer yarn on the MIB1 card we sell you a new card then you can do it yourself thereafter. You'd have to do it once to try out having taken a back up copy as a fail safe. The spec and order number if it works would be good then so people can take this route :). A lot of grousing on the main thread back in 2016 when people spent their money and found the roads they wanted were not there on the MIB2 cards bought from dealers (and the ebay MIB1 option many cards didn't work). If you wait long enough they get digitised or you can make your own submission to the map provider.

Mib1 SD card latest map link is this

http://infotainment-cdn.skoda-auto.com/base/maps/STD1_P81_EU_201920.zip

Do back up your original card thou Tom before over writing.

Sorry for the late replies! I contacted Kendal Cupra on Facebook Messenger and they confirmed for my model that I would need to purchase the new SD card from then and insert it myself as the system will automatically update so there are no extra dealership costs. Also future updates would be done using the website and updating it yourself. There's no other way to do it with my model without the new card

So you haven't done it yet. Keep us posted.

There was / is suppose to be update cards you can buy which are DIY for mib1, this is where I wondered whether people back in 2016 were getting the wrong cards off eBay. It's a dark art, that's why one needs the part number if success is achieved since it wasn't in 2016 when a group of people tried to follow a person or persons who had bought replacement cards from eBay and drew a blank. They only got those installed via the dealer after the ebay purchase. This is where I subsequently read there were two different products sold, one DIY the other not a few years later. One will be if you have Mapcare the other not.

Need those part numbers when someone has success to clear it up.

Hopefully that works out better for you than when I tried to install my new SD card earlier this year, only to be confronted with this error message...

Perhaps the dealers don't know themselves refreshing myself on that thread link. I think as I said in 2016 further up why some people had success could have been they had bought of ebay self starter cards whilst other people bought the upgrade card which is based on having Mapcare for mib1 and doing a card swap rather than the download route. I did read of these two types of cards on a German board in my search for the software pack to get Mapcare on a mib2 Plus unit (That which would cost £600 abroad but not sold in the UK, opted for the retrofit firmware update for half the price). A period of heavy Googling.

If someone does achieve this without dealer activation, publishing the part number would be very useful for those that still have mib1... failing that I'll still keep saying it's a problem. Then they need to test it to see whether they then have unlimited update possibility which is what TomST supplier was saying which is navana.

Think I need to try the next nearest local dealer to me. The person I spoke to had no idea about purchasing a new SD Card for my MIB1 and said "you know they cost around £300 don't you". So I left and will try another dealer ! My maps are 5 years old so could do with an update.

Out of interest, those who've updated from firmware 0425 to 0480 - how long did the process take ? I've downloaded the files and need to get on with that. Is there anything I should be specifically aware of ? (other than the need to resolve the SVM at the end).
