CUPRA MIB2 retrofit thread.

Hi All,

I have been looking at the possibility of upgrading my MIB1 (5F0035858A), 040, Software 0425 with a MIB 2 unit.

My existing MIB 1 has NAV, SEATSOUND, DAB, VOICE, CUPRA DRIVING MODE SELECTION, Parking pilot. I need all these to continue to work.

I want the BIG 8" display (5F0919606)

I am looking into the pro and cons of either the Harman 5F0035020 or the 5F0035043. Former is much more expensive. Why?

- I understand that both the screen and the UNIT will require component protection removing, whatever unit I buy. This can only be done at a main dealer?

- I think that 5F0035020 is required if a Virtual Cockpit retrofit is wanted later on?

- I don't understand exactly why units need to be hacked? - Is this to enable features? If so, if a unit comes from a car with everything enabled already in my existing car, does it still need hacking?

- To what extent can features be enabled via VCDS?

Any info gratefully received! Especially from those who have already swapped to MIB2

Thanks for the link. - I had spotted this one but wondered if I really need to buy a hacked unit, given that my car VIN has already got most features I need. If I bought a MIB2 from a broken CUPRA with all the same features as mine, then get Component protection removed by SEAT, would it all just work??

I also notice that in the advert is says compatible with Leon >2015. I messaged him but no reply as yet.

How easy would it be to find an MIB2 unit from a 'broken' Cupra with the same features as your car? How much would it cost?
And how much to remove CP? The above units also allow you to update the maps yourself.
They are not very quick responding to messages.

I agree, it might be the best option out there.

I don't know how much SEAT would charge to remove the Component protection.

Am I righting thinking you only need to get the unit hacked if you want features that are not coded into your cars VIN already?

Don't get a Harman unit - removing the CP is only part of the deal.
You need to send the unit to a guy in Poland who will flash a hacked firmware that allows enabling all the features.
Thanks means what with other units you will eventually get them to partially work after removing CP but then you lose NAV, etc.
The more expensive unit you mentioned is likely to be the one that can be modified.
--edit--

Read more about it here - the names are different for the screens, but the glovebox units are the same:

Seems Harman is fine after all ;)

Anyone know the answer to this for sure? - Given my car has most features already on the MIB1, it may make more sense for me just to buy a cheap 5F0035043 and get component protection removed. Job Done.

I've carried out a retrofit from the 5.8" screen to the 8" screen
I installed the screen, head unit (glove box) and USB (glove box) then got component protection removed.

I have a cupra with seat sound and when I installed the new unit I had to get the guy who removed component protection reinstall the files for the sub control.

I followed this guide on how to do it

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index....-stereo-sat-nav-dab-unit.449315/#post-4833514

On the back of the screen I also cut away at some of the plastic so it could fit into screen.

I was looking to purchase the one from eBay as its the high unit and I could have android auto, video in motion and I was possible looking to retro fit in virtual cockpit.

Imo the bigger screen is better and Bluetooth connectivity is within 5 seconds compared to the 20 secs the old unit took, my only issue is that by changing the unit I lost access to my maps. I can pay to get a new document control key for it but I'd rather put that money into the high unit.

Thanks for this.
Was it just the screen you changed? Can I ask how much it cost you get the component protection removed?

Sounds like going for the NAV high in the first instance may be the best option as mentioned by Walone above.

The screen itself does not have CP so he must have changed the unit in the glovebox as well.

I changed both the unit in the glove box and the screen.

It cost me £100 from https://www.vagcodingspecialist.co.uk

I went to him personally and he managed to remove everything and reload the files needed so I could have my seat sound subwoofer option.

He also does remote codings as well

There was also http://www.vagwerkes.co.uk that you could use, not sure on remote coding.

I'd personally go for the NAV high, it has a built in hard drive and other extras as well
