Hi Guys....weekends here again lol

Looking to see what everyone's thoughts are on what engines should be available for the new FR ?? I personally thought that there was too much of a power gap between FR and Cupra on previous models, therefore i'd like to see something about 220-240 bhp ....old Golf GTI engine maybe ???

Cheers LB

There was the 1.8 Tsi engine with about 184 bhp, I thought they discontinued that though.

I did think it odd there was a gti with about that BHP but not in either Skoda or SEAT.

There’s talk of a petrol hybrid with about 240-260 bhp which sounds cool. If it has electric drive motors say on the rear wheels as well as a combustion engine in the drive chain for the fwd then it will be quick off the line.

There was a short lived 2.0 Leon FRFR Sport that has the same 2.0 engine from the newer Polo GTIs/Audi A1. It was discontinued after 3ish months I think due to the WLTP emissions. I wonder if that will be the Ibiza Cupra?

Hi AWSM, yep I recall the 2.0 190 bhp, I think it may still be in the vw T-Roc. As mentioned I think an FR should get about the 230ish mark, I've seen that there could be a hybrid Cupra with 245 tho, so I'm not sure what the highest output for an FR would be.

the Mk2 Leon Fr had the TFSI with 210bhp. then the Mk3 FR had a max of 184bhp with the Diesel version and 180bhp with the petrol.

thats marketing for you I reckon because most people are happy with a Golf GTI and don't bother with the Golf R as it offers just as much most of the time. Maybe Seat saw it as a way to sell more Cupra variants as there was a much larger gap between that and the FR of atleast 100bhp.

I think it will be much the same as it is now

1.5 tsi 130/150 varients
2.0l tsi 190bhp

2.0tdi 150/184

and the cupra is already quoted as 245bhp.

they may bring out a 300bhp cupra r hybrid in a couple of years

I would like to see a GTE spec Leon and I think it's been mentioned - 201 BHP, but that's quite close to the Cupra at 245 BHP, so who knows.

CUPRA Leon Petrol won't be a step down from current-gen in power CUPRA/SEAT know that won't go down well. Hybrid likely to be the 245HP.

Just a minor correction based on new golf/octavia engines
1.0 tsi (3 cylinders) 110 bhp
1.5 tsi CNG 130 bhp
1.5 tsi 150 bhp
2.0 tsi 190 bhp
2.0 tdi 150/200 bhp
hybrid 1.4 tsi + e-motor 204/245 bhp

Not bad but nothing groundbreaking from the mk3, obviously the one in the pic will be an SE varient or other non sporty version.

so will look better in tarted up spec i guess but i won’t be running to the dealership to make an order
