Please turn on headlights

is there any way to turn off this warning as it's starting to annoy me, just drove home from work in bright sunshine and it insisted I turn headlights on! in protest I left them off but then had nothing but a warning in middle of display!

another thing is the flaming brake assist slamming on every time I drive down drive and into garage, why do we need all these inconveniences? managed to survive 30+ years of motoring so far with no issues...

Why noy just put the lights on auto?

because you're driving round with headlights on full for no reason? wouldn't mind if it was just side lights as it has DRL's anyway. anyone would think we live in Sweden!

Not at all, the headlights will come on when its dark, during the day it will have DRL's on.

that's my issue, today was bright sunshine and it wasn't having it! I like to be in control of the simpler driving things as cars are not intelligent enough just yet...

so is there a way of turning it off deep in the settings? or maybe there's a sensor somewhere that is simply dirty and thinks it's night time?

Given the terrible state of driving in this country these days anything that makes me more visible is a good thing. I leave mine on auto and don't have any issues

Maybe try giving the sensor a clean or see if there is someway you can decrease the sensors sensitivity?
YOu can decrease the sensitivity in the car settings under the lighting module. On my pre facelift this only seems to affect how soon after driving under a bridge or through a shady spo under trees the headlights come on.

Lights in auto then you don’t have to worry, drl’s will be on through the day and will switch to dipped headlights when deemed necessary, if you switch the switch to auto then all your problems will disappear.

this really is a non issue imo

You can disable this warning in Carista.

I did it myself on my R ST today !!

Even with lights set to come on “late” I find the headlights come on way too early, especially when the car has DRL’s brighter than the sun itself.

This way I can set lights to “off” in those circumstances when auto is too sensitive and not have the warning to switch on dipped beams taking over half the virtual cockpit.

looks like I need to get Carista then! can't see the point in wasting energy when it's broad daylight, my start/stop system hardy works as it is and having lights on for reason doesn't help matters..

I get the auto function and when necessary leave it in this spot, you wouldn't drive around with wipers on when not raining would you? no difference..

If you want to make matters more complicated and have to remember to switch your own light on then go for it.

see many cars in built up areas driving at night with no lights on

it was a simple question really, is there a sensor that simply needs cleaning, if the answers no then fair enough.

never really had a problem turning lights on, I'm not dumb enough to drive at night with no lights, usually women that do that (including my daughter lol)

the future generation won't have a clue on how to drive a car when everything becomes automated, it's very sad it's coming to this, eventually you won't even need a driving test as all you'll need to know is how to unlock a car and use the navigation system.

The sensor is on the windsceen behind the rear view mirror (looking from inside)

There are 2 issues and none of them involve women.

The DRLs are that bright people think their headlights are on. It was better then dash’s only lit up when their lights where on, to help remind people. This happens that often that often now, new cars are now required to have the rear lights always on with the DRLs.

Also the DRLs are too bright for other road users when it gets dark. So not only do people not have their rear lights on, they’re blinding other road users.

Have to agree with others, putting the headlights in Auto is a none issue, so what if the dipped headlights turn on. It’s not like they’re halogen bulbs that are more likely to blow. The LED’s should our last the life of the car, but certainly the warranty.

I also think leaving them in auto is a no brainer, if the system works properly as intended for use.. I just want my electrical system to be as efficient as possible, that's what car makers are striving for these days aren't they?

thanks for all the info, it has been enlightening!

Auto headlights have been a thing for years, just like auto wipers. I don’t understand people who still choose to do both manually. Weird.

Auto wipers do mess up now and again 90% of the time they are fine. My first car to have auto wipers was in 2000 on an old peugeot 306.

auto lights however are a no brainer
