1.5TSI EVO Tuning

My car is a lease car and is the 130ps model rather than the 150ps.

i am not expecting to turn it into a performance car but feel that with around another 30ps or so it would be a nicer car for daily use.

Ideally i'd like some form of OBD solution that can easily be added and removed, think something like Superchips Blufin etc.

i am not looking at a remap or anything that will permanently change anything.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

No 1.5 tsi remap available yet

Not even a tuning box for the 130bhp version, there is a tuning box for the 150bhp version however, but as the engines are completely different that's a no too.

I have contacted Revo regarding a remap and they told me will be another 12months + until a remap is released. Problem is even with a Superchips Bluefin it leaves a trace on the ECU so still detectable after unloading the map.

As it is a lease car and not your car I would recommend leaving it well alone (which you will have to anyways for time being)

Thanks for this advice BigJase88. Its a shame but i suppose i will have to leave it.

Out of interest how do the 2 engines differ? i'd have assumed it was just the ECU?

I thought the same but apparently the changes are quite severe

Compression ratio
Turbo
And other things i can’t remember

I like yourself thought the 130 would be a de-tuned version of the 150 but apparently not.

It is a bit of a boring engine seems very long winded between gears. And you can never keep it in any sort of ‘sweet spot’

I just drive it for economy now as it doesn’t excite me in any way.

I have hunted and hunted but no tuner is listing a map for the 1.5 tsi. Maybe a good independant remapper could do it live but i don’t know

Superchips Bluefin is a remap. it works exactly the same as somebody flashing a new map and then flashing back to stock.

I also have a 1.5 130 and I agree needs something more... coming from the previous 1.4 ACT 150 I’m down 20bhp and 50Nm torque so I’ve been looking too, pretty much the same engine is in the Tiguan but Vw are quoting an extra 22Nm so there must be the capability.

The I have found a couple of European companies selling tuning boxes for this engine and also found this one for the both the Leon & the VW golf 1.5 130 claimed gain is 33bhp & 57Nm more or less bang on the extra 30bhp you are looking for so might be worth enquiring on:

£469 for a tuning box

Had a couple of tuning boxes before they don’t come close to a remap. If those boxes were around £200 i’d maybe take a punt on one

Same here £469 for a box is a bit more than i'd be comfortable paying. Guess i'll have to learn to enjoy it for what it is.

Thanks for the input.

Remap available check quantum tuning

both 130/150 remap to 185bhp

They do indeed mate. I've tracked down a local-ish VAG specialist who supply Revo and Quantum maps. They say Revo are working on a remap that can be updated through the OBD and will be available in the summer. They also say Quantum do a remap but this in not deliverable through the OBD on all ECUs for the 1.5 TSI at present. That's where the cost escalates with the removal and reinstallation of the ECU. The map itself is quite reasonably priced otherwise.

What would be great is a map that can be applied by the driver themself via the OBD and removed in the same way should the need arise. The tuning boxes just seem cumbersome with the way they have to be installed in the engine bay.

You can do that through a Superchips Bluefin module, if they ever develop a map for the 1.5tsi that is. It does however show on the ecu as all maps do

Has anyone bought one of these yet?

Do you know I've just been looking at them again tonight after reading a new thread about an accelerator pedal box. I'm in two minds if to spend the extra and get the App version to change the settings from a phone or not. It's the difference between earache from the Mrs about the fence that needs fixing or me having something for myself for a change (rather than the house or the kids).

I might try the £119 option i couldn’t justify the most expensive one, like yourself my missus would start moaning wanting a new bathroom or kitchen. I can hide £119 [B)]

I might try the £119 option. Does it just plug into obd port?
Too late i just bought it. Might as well give it a bash for £119

i actually watched a youtube video on racechip they actually seem quite on the ball, they bought a 1.5 tsi ibiza and took them a year to develop.

obviously the cheaper box only gives an extra 29bhp but bang for buck can’t go wrong.

will report back if its any good

Nice one BigJase...keep us posted as I was looking at the mid range one and couldn’t make my mind up.

If it is noticeable difference or cures the roo then worth a punt for just over £100

@BigJase88 - Cheers big man. I'll give you a nod once I've made my mind up which version I'm going for. I see the referral amount is in a tier system based on which model you recommend out. 60 quid is for the GTS Black. The S model which is what you've gone for attracts a £5 referral payment.

@GeoffGeoff - I've sent them a message asking about the mid range one. There isn't a great deal of difference between it and the one BigJase has ordered other than app support and marginal power gains over the S model. I've asked how the app will adjust the box if the unit has a rotary selection dial. I can't get my head around that at the moment...
