Hi

I recently bought an 07 1.2 ibiza and I'm having a couple of issues.

The first is water in the boot which I think is coming from the passenger rear light cluster, is this common and is there new gasket I can buy to stop it. I should also mention the rear washer isn't working. I'm taking this isnt the problem as it only fills with water after raining.

The second problem is I put it in for a test and it fail due to the oil temperature being 116c. The dash never shows more that 90C. I left it run for about 30 minutes and the fan does not come on but the temperature is still showing as 90c. I did have to change the battery when I bought it wonder was that anything to do with it.

Cheers for any help.

Water in the boot is usually the pipe for the rear window washer, it falls off and lets the fluid out. So check that first.

If the fans not coming on it could be the fan switch is dead, also you temperature sender might be faulty.
Probs wasn't a good idea to idle it for 30 minutes without fans, you might have bust the headgasket doing that.

Thanks

Found the leak was coming from top left hand side of the boot. I used Granville Black Silicone Sealant on the seam hope it works.

Found a video which show the fan switch, near the radiator. It looks like a three pin setup if I short the live to the low speed the fan should come on I think?

Usually the switch is not faulty, with my experience with these cars it's the fans relay that sits under the battery, happened to me aswell, replaced it and everything works perfectly

Finally got round to taking another look at this. I shorted the 12v on the plug into the fan switch and no movement out of the fan. 12v is definitely there so is that a good indication its the relay?

Look deeper down, you'll see it, it's not literally under the battery.
2 connectors are connected to it if I remember right.
Two 10mm bolts are securing it, might be a bit difficult to release them as they used locktite to lock the threads in the factory.

I've trace the cables and fir the life of me I can't find the relay. Would it be different in a 1.2 engine

No, it's the same in every engine.
I circled the location where it should be, about there just down in the engine bay.
let me make it easier for you, look from underneath the car, you'll need to remove the bottom engine cover.

Cheers

Found something that looks like it but is different.has three connectors on it. I did find what looks like an earth wire loose. I wonder could that be what's causing the fan trouble.

Have you checked the fuses and the wiring and that the fan can spin freely?

If your car has a single fan, typically the slow speed dropper resistor fails but the high speed should still run - though all that still relies on the fan control unit getting all the correct supplies and switching signals and it still working okay.

Have you unplugged the power supply to the fan(s) and applied a fused 12V across its leads?

The fuses are OK and the fan does work. It nearly took my hand off when I used an independent 12v supply. It is a single fan too.

Where is this resistor located.

Thanks for the help

I think that you should Google VW cooling fan "some thing" like problems or not running, all VW Group cars tend to use the same design of system to control that fan, the resistor will be in the wiring on the cooling fan assembly.

You have checked the fuses on the battrey?
Should be fuse number 3 if you count from the left
