Why is a Cupra road tax £190 a year?

Hey,

I have received my tax notification that it expires at the end of the month...

It says

6 Months @ £104.50
12 Months @ £190.00

Now...Can you tell me why that is?! My mate has the SAME car and it is £175 for the year?

I thought it might be because mine is a 2001, and his a 2000, but surely as they are both MK3's, same engine etc! It wouldnt make for more tax?!

I was standing behind a bloke in the post office today, who had his tax papers held behind his back, so I had a cheeky look, and noticed it said £175 for the year, and his car was a Toyota 2.5L ! 2003 Registered!

Whats going on? Is it just my car? Is it a Ferrari in disguise? :)D )

Can someone check their Cupra on the online tax thing and see how much it quotes for them...

I will ring the DVLA tommorow and see whats going on...!

it could be one car registered as PLG and the other as Petrol Car

have known this in the past when i paid more tax on my 206 1.6 8v 90bhp engine reg'd as PLG, than my brother did on his Rover 25 2.0 16v reg'd as Petrol Car

Damn :(

Bit of a joke really what with the excess insurance costs and silly tax prices, this Country is going down the pan big style.
Really, we dont get jack all for it do we? How many roads do you see with huge pot holes and rubbish surfaces in!

I honestly think these people with the MASSIVE 4x4's should be taxed to the hills, they block our views, mostly drive like idiots, use more fuel! They are the ones who should be paying over the odds not us :(

what about the farmers ? but i see your point ref chelsea tractors though

on the same lines add buses

block the streets - drive in pairs - rarely used - and emissions and fuel through the roof

put 30 people on a coach and compare its road placement (emissions/fuel) then compare it to 30 people in an average of cars over the same journey

my money is still on the cars being better all round

Farmers should be the exception I completely agree mate.

The families with 200 kids who have massive cars, block the road, can't park, most of the time dont even know how to drive a 1.0L let alone a massive 4x4, they should be taxed more.

Yip i had to fork out £190 the other day too. Last year is was £165 for a years tax thats about a 15.2% rise this year.

Earlier this year our goverment advised us to shop around for our gas suppliers because of price hikes.

Pitty we can't shop around for cheaper road tax.

£300 a year for a bus!!! Gordon Brown should be wearing a mask.

The ONLY fair way would be to abolish road tax, and add it to the cost of petrol. Therefore the more petrol you use, consequently the more you use the road, the more you pay - simple. It would also do away with all the costs involved in supplying tax disks, and having to chase people for non payment.

hear hear - BUT then they will lose money on the paid for and unused quotas on some cars that do the little trips

look out for tax ya car wether on road or not coming soon by a crap governement near you :censored:

just think what would happen IF everyone screwed up their tax discs and insurance policies (ref mazda thread) remembering the CSA debarcle could they really have enough time money and resources to stitch us all up and even if they did would it be cost viable to chase us all for non payment of fines ???

People Power does and will work if big enough support is raised
