Gearbox Code

Quick question for the knowledgeable amongst you.

Looking for the gearbox code (the three letters) on a 2002 1.2 Ibiza.

Would anyone know if the code is the same for all, and would anyone know this code?

I've tried getting it from SEAT themselves but to be honest they were fair from a great help.

No they are not all the same, it depends when the vehicle was built

01/02 - 05/02 FQE
05/02 - 11/02 GEU
11/02 - 04/03 GKU
03/03 - 06/06 GSB
06/06 - 11/06 JJL
11/06 > JUS

remember these are build dates not registraion dates, they are a little approximate (as you can tell from the overlap of dates). Chances are yours is FQE, if you have access this code should be on the data sticker in the service book or under the mat in the boot

Hi, thanks for that, I've found out the the code is GEU.

Is it that a later gearbox (2003 Ibiza in this instance) is technically different of physically is different?

Would it be possible to fit a GKU gearbox in place of a GEU gearbox both having come from a 1.2 Ibiza?

Don't know what the difference is but I think they are interchangeable. My reasonging is that the replacement part for both these gearbox codes is the same (and GSB & FQE as well)

Thanks, I got a gearbox of a different code from a breakers year from a later Ibiza and it fitted and is now working 100%.
