All I'll say is....A lot of people dislike these kind of threads.
As far as I'm aware, no one's raced one of those, loads of other cars

The VXR is a pig for torque-steer. If the driver could control the surge, it'd win.

But it'd still be a Vauxhall.

my mum and dad have one, the torque steer isn't that bad and it doesn't feel any quicker than my LCR. i was expecting all the boost to arrive in one large lump and have to grip the wheel tight but it isn't like that at all............ it also makes a horrible noise when you're giving it some, not like my LCR where you get a nice sound from the turbo spooling up! i think they're overrated.

depends on kit and company..stage 2 is usually 285bhp on a vxr.

My best mate has one. courtney stage 2..285 bhp, 305 ft-lbs torque...It is quite laggy.

These arguments could go on all day long..in fact theres loads of these threads read on.

Interesting fact, my LC is perfectly matched with his vxr. My cupra is 237bhp and 267 ft-lbs torque.

I'd still avoid Vauxhall like the plague. ST or VXR? ST anyday.

Just don't feel like they're made by people that LIKE cars or LIKE driving. Where is the passion? :S Sound like my old art teacher. But seriously, the cars feel dead.

Last time I got a buzz from a Vauxhall was my friends 1.4SRi Nova. And that's a sad day for me, a die-hard Ford fan :<

i was a blue oval fan up until getting my LCR, i was going to get a new ST until i saw my car at a garage and took it for a test drive. i just couldn't justify spending the extra 5-6k on the focus after that. i'd still have an escort cosworth or RS500 though!

well on my m8s vxr...he has a miltek system and downpipe...and what i will say for the car...is the sound from it is incredible.

Deffinatly one of the best sounding cars iv heard. Just has things that lets it down, for example, hes on his 3rd gearbox...and the handling isnt very good.

Interior is lovely though..and it looks great.

I had a VXR have a go with me not so long ago...
It was from a rolling start (around 20 mph) though coming up to a set of lights that were just changing to green. he flashed his indicators so i knew he would have been trying his darndest to pull away from me but i was able to sit behind him up to bit of a silly speed before we had to slow. he wasnt happy afterwards either, no wave or look as i drove past!

Astra VXR weighs 1393kg Vs 1376kg for the LCR ... the VXR is heavier! 225PS Vs 237PS - 12PS more which makes zero difference on the road (100kg lighter and 20bhp more - don't think so!!!) The acceleration and handling on the VXR is not very good at all, LCR is alot better, I test drove the Astra VXR and the Focus ST - I liked the Focus ST but really didn't like the VXR, felt quite slow really and nervous on corners.

3rd gearbox!?!?! Is that cos he's killing them or they have all been faulty?

I'm not a massive fan of the VXR but it does feel special when you sit in it. Not so good when you actually drive it though.

The Focus ST is a superior machine across virtually all fronts. Just look at the sales figures. Ignore the fact the ST was released first. That's neglible considering the Vauxhall confederate would of held their cash back until the VXR's release.

The car DOES torque steer like a sod. It's been well documented. You get these die-hard part-time professional people saying they can control it's FWD force. Well, if that's the case.. you need to quit the office job 'cos many a pro has complained about it. How is it the ST puts the power down so much better than the VXR? Granted, it's isn't as strong in displacement nor horsepower, but they're both BIG FWD machines.

Perhaps if the Corsa had been made with a little more class to it, then I wouldn't have such a problem with Vauxhall. Why is it whenever you get a lift in a Corsa of a 96ish era, they ALL stink and are grubby as fudge inside? Not one of them is cared for. Why? Because they are ugly little rot-sacks with no soul and no guts :D

Vauxhall = worse than Hitler :p

(I liked the GSi's and GTEs though... oh, and I didn't mind the Nova.. believe it or not :S And I'm well aware of its close-ties to the Corsa. But it was made in a different way for a different time. Emissions didn't matter as much then :p)

like i said earlier in the thread though, i've driven a VXR as hard as i drive my LCR and i was expecting the torque to snatch the steering wheel out of my hand and it just didn't happen (even after pressing the magical SPORT button) i did follow up on my first post saying how i came to own my LCR after being a die-hard blue oval fan for many years and i'd pick the ST over the angry chicken VXR anyday. the ST not as strong on displacement or horsepower? you're correct about the horsepower part but i thought the ST was a 2.5 five cylinder volvo lump? if i'm wrong then please feel free to put me in my place....... right, i'm off to write my resignation letter. and i don't work in an office! :p

Correct mate, it is indeed a 2.5 5cyl engine originally from a Volvo, but with a different map to adjust the way it delivers it's power and torque.

Hehe, no you're correct. It's a 2.5 5-Cylinder Volvo engine. My apologies. I'm alt-tabbing like a bitch here. Big boss is down today an he's seriously cramping my forum-whoring style. Might take him to task in a minute, see what he thinks about him making me nervous enough to write other than stone cold facts; facts like Vauxhall stinking :D

Anyway, maybe you didn't hardcore the VXR enough? :p Perhaps they've invested in better-than-stock tyres? :S No doubt you'd know the answer to this. Nevermind. Torque-steer or no torque-steer, perhaps you should consider a career in BTCC? :p

i think you're right, i'm a driving god! it has the optional 19's fitted so i don't know if that helps matters at all. they had a 1.8 corsa sri before that and i hate to say it but it was a cracking car to thrash around country roads........... but at the end of the day it was still a vauxhall!

Black VXR on the motorway. Asked him to move - he wouldn,t. Pushed him up to 140 then cruised by. All done in 6th. Didn,t impress me at all.
