Uprated Haldex controllers for 4wd systems

Looking for anyones wisdom relating to this.

My car is going in to Kim Collins QST in March and I was looking to get the uprated Haldex controller from the RS4 fitted to the S3.

This should provide a more rear wheel drive experience and I believe in normal conditions biases the split to 60% rear / 40% front drive.

I was speaking to someone who asked whether:

a) I was concerned about wearing out the clutch on the Haldex system which would only be designed to cope with occasional use - eg. when the car breaks traction, and NOT the continuous use of the RS4 system (he expected the RS4 to be running bigger clutches to cope with the 420bhp / continuous use).

b) would the ESP system be confused by the uprated Haldex controllers running characteristics. I was hoping that there would be appropriate algorithms within the box to ensure the car was 'safe', but it sounds like a fair point.

I'd be grateful if anyone with any knowledge could shed some light. I'd speak to QST, but as they are selling them they MAY have a vested interest to tell me 'it will be OK'!

cheers

Warren

Have you thought about asking Haldex themselves, Warren?

(You can get a free badge there, at least :D )

cheers for that - I've just mailed them.

Hardly any of the links on the site work, and they have run out of 'special badges' - how will I cope. I'll settle for a response from them for now!

TBH I can't believe there is a Haldex owners club. Soon there will be a club for people who eat Werthers Originals. Where will it end....

The RS4 doesn't use a haldex system is uses a torsen system so what you're suggesting isn't possible as the haldex is electronically controlled and torsen is mechanical.

I have the uprated haldex controller made by haldex as an aftermarket part on my 450bhp Octavia and it makes a huge difference over stock and well worth doing in my opinion.

Good to hear. I will only be running circa 310bhp/400Nm so it wont have to cope with that kind of power. Is yours a BT conversion / NOS?

IIRC there was 3 different boxes you could buy around £499 fitted!.

Now thats just confusing - how do you know which one suits best for your requirements?

Looks like the blue (less detectable) version 2 is the one to go for. I know we only get snow about once a decade, but I've never been gifted with luck and I can do without a case of snap oversteer if it was to snow.

Fascinating that such a small box of tricks can achieve so much.

I was going to buy an exhaust, but this will do instead.

@ Coxw give VagTech a call and John can tell you more about them ;)

They had one fitted to the 400bhp R32

I do remember him saying something about red & blue but also recall somrthing about a switch that's fitted in the car(like a controller unit)

I was not paying to much attention as I am not going to start spending loads of cash (as normal) with the modding
