Hi all

How much oil is fair to "eat" for a LCR?
Mine 210 hp (42.000 km) is eating about ½L for about 2500 km. Seems alot?
Can it be because of the service interval? The car runs longlife castrol 5/35, last oil changed at 30.000.

Maybe the oil is "done" and thats why the motor i eating it?

Best regards, Thomas

That's quite a bit of oil usage for an LCR. Mine uses about that in a year!

You must be nearly ready for your next service though, so perhaps a good service and a new oil filter will help things out?

I've topped up about 800ml between 10k (mile) services. The Seat Specialist who services my LCR uses the same stuff Audi uses in the TT & S3 - Castrol Longlife III which is 0W40 (very thin), except mine is changed every 10k (miles) as opposed to 20k (miles) for the Audi. I thought this was reasonable useage over the mileage.

1/2 litre every 2500km (1 litre every 5000km (~3100 miles)) does seem excessive... :(

The oil had been changed at 15.000 intervals due to the service manual.
So next service(and oil change is at 45.000).
I assume when i bought the car, they only checked oil etc. and didnt refill.
What I have done is just to top on, so the level is right in the middle of the the crossed pattern on the "oil stick".

So technical the engine have may'be only used ½L since the 30.000 service?`
Cause I've only topped about ½ L on, cause I know it should be serviced in about 2000 km.(3 weeks).

May'be is just should call the dealer and say it's service time!

Hi Gubien,

I have a LCR also and what ever my car needs it gets. The service intervals on the British LCR's is set to 10,000 mile (approx 16,000 KM's). There is a count down from 2,000 miles the a service message flashes everytime you start the car until it is re-set at the service.
I find it very stange that you would buy a top of the range fast/sporty car like a LCR and scrimp and save on oil. It is very important for a car to have good clean oil running through all its parts. Topping up by half a litre means you only have 2/3 of the oil that you need (I think it is 1 1/2 litres full). On starting up your car that could have serious long term problems. For the sake of spending 20 euros on oil why bother about the cost of oil??

Believe me, my car gets what it need, it's not like a just say "Hmm....low oil...ahhh what the heck"....The best possible thing to do is ofcause to change oil and filter. But the local seat where the car was bought from(with 6 months full warranty) said I should wait to keep the service intervals, and they could first give me a service 09-07-07.

They didnt think that ½L by 11.000 was anything at all compared to the 1000km/1L rule, but as I told them it was a totally stupid rule!

Btw. are you saying that there are 1½ L oil from the min to max on the oil stick??

That does seem like a lot of oil usage as has been mentioned above. I'd recommend doing the service and having a good check over of the engine, make sure there arent any small leaks occuring anywhere.

May'be i'm all wrong about this. But, if the oil level is between min/max, shouldnt it be OK then? I mean, as long as the oil indicator isnt on?

If Seat thougt that only 1½ L marks on the stick is ok, they would probably had moved it and made the distances between the min/max shorter?

May'be i'm just all wrong

Sounds right, If loosing 1 1/2 litres was a very bad thing then it wouldn't read 'min' 'max' it would read 'max' and 'dead car'
