I've just got a Pace Charge Cooler but not got round to fitting it yet....will post pics as soon as i have!
Got all the fitting instructions with it and it looks like a piece of piss to fit really!!

its an alternative to an fmic. basically fmic cools air with air, and a charge cooler cools air using water.
fmic's are more efficient. The water in a CC system will get warm and it uses a seperate radiator to cool the water.

Imo i think it will be better because the shorter pipes will allow the turbo to boost up quicker, and im after a stock look exterior (street sleeper) and feel a huge fmic will spoil that. As for heat soak i was going to wrap the chargecooler in some sort of thermal barrier to prevent it.

Not to diss the charge coolers ....but in 10 years Ive yet o see one out perform a FMIC ..remeber the Escort Cos WRC that had the charge coolers removed and a huge FMIC fitted in place !!
lots of cars have charge coolers as standard and most are perfect for road use.
Escort Cos WRC spent most of there life on full boost which creates heat and after awhile the water in a charge cooler will heat up and become less effective at cooling the intake charge.
A cheaper way of cooling would be the Laguna intercooler which i know from personal experience works very well and with a bit of mesh behind the bumper it looks good as well.
Bottom line is that you want your cooler to cool the charged air without much pressure loss and there is many ways off doing this without spending money on over priced items. Also have a look at water injection its a awesome mod but very underrated by those that haven't tried it

Remember,the cooling medium in a charge cooler is water,it works by extracting heat from the pressurised/hot air produced by the turbo.The water temperature of the charge cooler will subsequently begin to rise to the same temperature as the turbocharged air.The warmer the water temperature is,the less efficient the chargecooler will become at extracting the heat from the turbo air.The heat from the water therefore has to be extracted,if you wrap the chargecooler in a thermal blanket it will keep the heat within the water.The only way around this is to have a feed & return pipe for the water, from the chargecooler, to a separate radiator/heat exchanger to cool the water down via a pump.A more complicated installation than an intercooler,however if done correctly it will extract more heat than an intercooler.

Add peltiers and get sub-ambient charge temps tho
FMIC wont do that unless sprayed.

charge coolers have their own water system and pre-rad tho dont they
x4 specific heat capacity of water compared to air.... but it also takes longer for it to give that heat back up again. pre-rad wise the higher the difference in temps the greater the heat exchange.,. FMIC high delta, charge cooler lower delta, so pre-rad sizing needs to be big surface area (or adfd alternate cooling to the water circulatory system, aka peltier coolers.)

same here - out the box for everyday use cant beat an FMIC
mate's anglia is running one with a seperate rad and coolbox though and have heard liquid nitrogen mentioned
mind you it is running a cossie and a truck turbo on a 600bhp pinto
