Abs & Traction

Can anyone help, My ABS & traction lights are constantly on, they came on on my way to work this morning, turning the traction button on and off makes no difference.

I've had a search through and think I've narrowed it down to 3 things, ABS Sensor, Knackered MAF or Coolent temp sensor. There's no difference to the drive from 2nd gear up but first seems a little jolty!?!

I don't particularly want to drive her round if I'm going to make it work, obviously plug her into VAG com when the laptops back running but can anyone advise in the mean time . . . Thanks.

personally (and i could be mistaken) i think its extremely unlikely that it has anything to do with the maf or the coolant temp sensor

more likely to be the abs sensor

If I'm not mistaken that should be around the £40 mark to fix . . .

not sure about the price or even if its the abs sensor that causing the problem but its more likely to be that than the other two things

Well I suppose the only way to find out is VAG Com, but you think I should be ok to drive it for the moment?

all i would say is, if your going to drive it dont drive at excessive speeds incase your abs doesnt kick in when its supposed to. get it on vag-com asap

Might be a bit off track but i've read the spring can sometimes wear out behind TCS button causing the traction control to either stay on/off. Does the button return to normal position once you've pressed it?

Yeah, it goes back to normal, it doesn't feel slack to press so I doubt it's that but I will keep it mind thanks for the input.

Brilliant, thanks for the heads up, I'll get it Vag-com'd asap and go from there, thanks again.

Just in case anyone's keeping tabs, got in the car last night and the lights went out and were normal again, still think I'll Vag-com it just to be on the safe side though!

silly question, but you didnt get the car washed did you?

as when i got mine washed, the jet washers tend to make the abs sensor play up and my light came on and went out after a while

No, I don't take it through the car wash, all done personally, I don't trust them! Although the ABS light is back on again, Booking it in asap but it looks like it's probably the ABS sensor. Better to be safe than sorry!

My ABS/traction control light is currently stuck on but ive put it down to the fact I need new brake pads. Thats what it was last time. Isnt it like a saftey thing so that if you have no pads it doesnt ruin the discs??

I have this on my car and have done for a few months now, i'v vag-comed it and it is the abs sensor.
Some times when i drive it the lights arnt on or are on then go out or are at the start but then go out after a wile.
You will need to use vag-com to know which side the bad sensor is and they are around £40 to buy.

Mine is going off and on got it booked in the garage friday to find out, but it does sound like the ABS sensor from what everyone's saying, checked the pads and there's loads left on them so doubt it's that. We'll see soon, I'll update with the result!

If anyone's checking back on this the result was the ABS sensor all along!
