Hello People....

My Cupra is broke! (again)

It only starts when its COLD. So when i have driven it and its hot, it wont start. So i have to wait for it to cool alllll the way back down to start it.

Any ideas?

I think it could be the Crank shaft sensor? What you reacon?

does it turn over but not fire?
i had this on a cinq turbo that i built, it was a bad engine earth that caused it as the resistance increased when hot so wouldnt turn over fast enough
worth a try anyway :)

my mk 2 did this in the 2.0 gti 8v engine the crank sensor was melted and would start shorting when the car got hot. its mounted under the oil filter and was covered in oil making it more prone to the heat. 7 mecanics tried to find the fault due to no codes, took one very good ex army auto sparky to find th problem then replaced it myself, knightmare to fit tho

Sorry to bring up an old thread..but i have the exact same problem at the moment. My car starts fine when cold but if its been driven for about 15mins and then tried to start straight after the engine will stutter and cut out.

Did you manage to find a solution to this??

Its probably caused by the coolent temp sensor telling the ecu that the engine is stone cold causing over fueling.

Defiantely try the coolant temp sensor
Very common fault
So common that the part had been superceeded
As has been said , the fuelling is altered as it thinks the engine is cold , so it will overfuel and will not fire up

i have so far replaced the Temp Sender fOr the 4 pin green one also its had a new starter motor and battery.

Crank sensor is next on the list I guess.

Its just annoying as hell the Vag Com has brought up any faults and it has been checked my an Indepent Specialist and a friend at the Dealer

I am not sure how the Crank sensor with effect warm start though as the will be fine when stone cold and when its still at 90 degrees on the dash...
