Well I picked up my 'new' Leon Cupra TDI (new to me, its actually a 53 plate, but you get the picture :D)

Was going to take some pic's and post them but can't bring myself to take any as I have had it parked out front for just two days and some dirty-chav-bar-stewards have gone and keyed it!
Absolutely gutted to %@~*! [:@], not just a surface scratch either, but one you can feel with your fingernail, over the rear qrtr and rear passenger door.

Looks like they have gone the length of the street doing the same to all the cars on one side - one poor sod with a mk2 Golf's been totally done over - about 4 scratches, all at different heights!
They got my LC and also my yet-to-be sold Rover 25!

I have got Chipsaway coming tomorrow to give a quote and also am taking it to someone that has been recommended to me by a friend, but am interested in the DIY option, I have searched this and other forums and some have had mild success. Likewise can anyone vouch for Chipsaway? or any other specialist in Derby?

Has anyone had any luck with polishing out scratches, the chipstick and polish method? - I'm gonna try this on my Rover as a test as I don't want to sell it scratched.

Also if I try the polish-out method, am I likely to cause more problems if it doesn't work? - you know, if I have to get someone like Chipsaway on it would they be likely to need to do more work to it to get it right?

My Leon got keyed a couple of months ago, front wing, drivers door, rear door and onto the rear wing. Took it to the dealer and they resprayed the whole side. Cost £450 though.

sorry to hear, dirty trick to play, happened to me a few cars back (brand spanker), after initial feeling of being gutted, just touched it in myself, i thought it may happen again, sorry to say it might just happen to you again, couldn't bear to think of spending money on it for it to happen again, it can be a sh*tty world. Let us know how you get on.

I would probably do the same as Phil, touch it up myself because the thought of having it resprayed and then it happening again would eat away at me. Unless you can park in a more safe place of course then it would be different.

Then again, it is awful knowing the car has been keyed and all you want to do is fix it, so I can understand getting a respray if that is what is needed.

Just don't do what my friend did (unless you really think you can fix it)- spend loads of cash on detailer stuff, t-cut, polish etc etc then decide to have a respray anyway as this bumps the price up even more.

Good luck with it, and hopefully the people who did this will be tortured in another life.

I can vouch for chipsaway, even if they are a little expensive :)

Used them a few times on my old Trophy Blue ZR. One occasion i was fiddling with the areial trying to fix the radio, in the pitch black so i was holding a torch, needless to say i dropped the torch (it wasnt a rubber one, oh no, it was a metal one :( ) i sort of caught it with one hand, which envolved slapping it into the paint work and dragged it all down the A Pillar by accident. Would of been less damage letting it fall to the floor and just chipping the paint work but my reactions just reacted heh :D

Another time i was drilling holes in the rear boot to fit a new numberplate i had just bought when i slipped with the hot drill scratching alot of paint and the boot of the ZR slopes outwards so the drill dug into the paint work and went deep, down to the metal.

Chipsaway sorted both of these, and you would never of known either were even there :D was very impressed with their work. However ive been trying to book my LCR on and off since Novemeber last year as it has a few light scratches but they keep fobbing me off saying they are fully booked with training courses :( getting it pro detailed soon anyway so hoping that will fix some of it :)

Mine is keyed on the boot, I'd love to meet the person that did it, I'd key there forehead. Chipsaway quoted £200 to respray it at my work.

Thanks everyone, like I said, I'm gonna try the touch-in method first on the other car and see how I get on.
If its successful on the Rover then will probably try on the LC, even if the Chips chap did laugh on the phone when I said that. After all theres nothing to lose really.

It really does :censored: me off tho the lack of respect that some gimps have for other peoples car's. Late last year some knob on a moped (no helmet or plates or anything) put all of the windows in on one side of our Xsara Picasso, luckily this was all done on insurance and we just paid the excess - didn't affect the no claims either - looks like insurance co.'s are getting better at recognising when it really isn't your fault.
Anyway rant over!;)

I'll let you all know how I get on.

Can anyone recommend some products for the DIY method, on the Rover am going to try using a chipstick and coloured wax.

If you can feel the scratch in the paintwork, then it's probably too deep to polish out - all you'll be able to do is mask it over. :(

Some people are just W**KERS!

Bought a brand new car a few years back (52 plate) and picked it up a week before christmas. When round the in-laws to show them the wifes new motor. Came back out and some one had already done the bonnet!!

Then to top it all off on christmas day went back round the in-laws, came out to the car a bit later on and the whole side had been done. Probably find the local chavs thought that the car would look good with a free style go faster strip - jealous tossers!!!

Needless to say my LC never has and never will go round there!!!

If its bad consider a claim of vandalism under the insurance if you've got protected NCB and a low excess (well thats what I did).

Gutting when this type of thing happens. Bought my missus an 06 plate Merc A Class and some kock went down the side of the car with a big fat black permanent marker, which ate into the laquer and has put a 2-3 inch dull stripe down the length of the car, would love to have caught them doing it:rifle::mad::brucelee::starwars::laser::censored:

Chipsaway have quoted £210 + VAT for a respray of the rear quarter and rear passenger door. Also had a quote from someone whos been recommended to me, he quoted £200, so simlar ball park.

Don't think that these are too bad IMO - Any recommendations from any of you guys?

I am really sorry to hear this but it does beg to ask...... upset someone lately?
LOL - sometimes feels like it, tho no don't think so, unless having a nice car parked out front offends people?? Just think that this was simply someone going up the street mindlessly scratching cars. Could be worst tho, a friend of a colleague has had her soft top slashed - £2000 she won't see again!

Hanging 'em would be a waste of rope!
