Ibiza 1.4 clutch help

hi all

I am looking to buy an Ibiza 1.4 cool s W reg, and I have test drove the car, the only thing I found a problem was the clutch, which was very stiff, I have had a quick look around on the forum and it looks like the 1.4 has a cable clutch rather then a hydraulic one?? can anyone confirm this?

also the solution to the clutch problem seems to be a new clutch cable, and possibly clutch aswell, if this is the case, how much would I roughly be looking to pay to them? the car has done about 90k.

does the 1.4 suffer from the broken clutch pedal box problem?

and finally, is there anything else I should look out for?

Thanks
Mo

Also, when I turned the ignition on, the engine management light didnt come on, now from the manual, it seems this doesnt turn on at the start, is this the case?? or should the light come on and go out??

clutch is cable. you get used to it in the end. plus your left leg ends up twice the sixe of your right after a couple of months driving

Thanks for all the replies, will prob get my local garage to have a quick look at the cable, but knowing its fairly common makes me feel better about buying th car,

Can anyone tell me if the engine light should come on with the ignition and then go out??
The engine light on the one I test drive did not come on with the iginition at all

That happened to mine too, it would tend to ping up just before biting point too and make for some unsmooth driving! I regreased the clutch cable and the linkage that it pulls and it feels loads smoother. You caqn just push the cable out of the linkage as opposed to unbolting it so it keeps the right tension.

Our 1.4 had an extremely heavy clutch causeing pedal box concerns, its now been replaced and has a new cable and is so light i can push it all the way to the floow with my index finger. I think our new clutch and cable came to £130. 100% worth it!
