I have owned a Focus RS which I modified extensively to 300bhp. It was a bit of an animal once modified but it was fairly slow as standard and that's why a lot of them are modded.
In the bends the RS was great, but in a straight line, it wasn't that good. That's why I modded it as it just didn't feel as quick as some of my previous cars (LCR and S3). It is over-rated in my opinion and a lot of the lads who have them modify them and then brag on the forums, saying every other car is "slow," forgetting that their car is modified and the standard ST, GTI or VXR they have just beaten is in standard form.
I was a member of the RSownersclub and most of the lads were getting 14-15 second 1/4 mile times. when we went to Santa Pod. The Focus isn't a 1/4 mile car and they most boys with them do admit that. I recall when I was a member that they were all trying to organise a 30-130 day instead. The FRS is good mid-range and good in the twisties but not amazing up the strip and I think you could surprise him in your
Cupra.
I think it should be a close call if he has 240bhp and you 40 or so bhp less. I think you could do him, mate but I am not certain... Give it a go and good luck!!! At the end of the day, both cars are FWD and so both should struggle off the mark so I think it will all depend on how you get off the line. get your tyres hot and sticky and get some practice first!!!
As well as an RS6, I now have a KO4
Ibiza Cupra which is somewhere in the region of 250bhp and that is as quick as my FRS was, maybe slightly quicker even and this is with 50 or so bhp less than my FRS had. It's all relative and all down to weight. Although I am unsure of the stats, I would guess the
Cupra is a bit lighter than a FRS.
On a side note, my
Cupra happily glued itself to the back of a Wolf Focus ST (330bhp) last week up to silly speeds (private road of course) and so bhp isn't everything. I wish I was in my RS6, that would have been funny!!!!
