Check the turbo spins freely I think is the next move benny like bgasmatt says as then its ruled out and can concentrate on wastegate and dv function.

Also I take it you havent found the socket afterwards?

Bill- If wastegate was plummed up wrong could it mean that it would work the opposite way it was supposed to? ie be totally open then close when being asked to adjust airflow when infact it should be closed and open when being asked to adjust airflow?

The only thing i forgot to mention is that when fitting the manni i dropped a socket which i was unable to retrive, this fell down near the underside of the manni so i wouldnt have thought it would have got into the turbo? Plus i assume i would of heard somthing on start up if it did? I let the engine run for a good 20minutes and gave it a good few revs before taking it out for a drive.

and now he mentions this..
:hide:

tip off, try turning comp wheel both ways and listen to jangling...

hope not for your sake.
costly error if so

dual plumbed actuators, push-pull, so conceivably backwards shut is closed and visa versa, hence asking the question a few posts up on is it closed or open when engine running. disconnect both of them to see if it makes any difference would eliminate this

socket dropped however sounds, erm, mighty dodgy..[B)] :headhurt:

if a socket has dropped you will be very lucky to retrive it and the turbo being damadged is very high m8.

remove turbo, extract your missing socket and inspect for damage... :hide:

you maybe got away with it just dropping in and stopping it.. (maybe.. hopefully.... luck of the gods)

ALWAYS account for your tools when working on the motors, check them back into your box before starting...

what size socket btw?

I feel such and idiot now,

But i was pretty certain that the socket went to the right of the turbo.

Whats best for port of call? Get a new turbo? or get the old one off and see if its damaged before buying a new one?

Take the old one off before spending any £ mate. May find its ok so would be spending money with no need to. If its dead you could get a hybrid as you seem to have been on a hunt for more power for a little while now.

like suggested, drop the tubby off, fish out the socket with a magnet (dont drop that in as well!) and refit and cross your fingers. if its damaged badly it will be noisier and fail under boost if out of balance from the damage.

just had a thought after looking at the turbo, when i say i dropped the socket it wouldnt have gone anywhere near the top of the turbo where the charge pipe sits, if it went anywere it would have been down where the DP connects to the manni. would falling down this hole make the turbine seize?

Could it be possible that the oil lines may have been damged which caused the turbine to seize?

holy moly - fingers crossed for you mate. This is way out of my knowledge space. Best of luck.

Autotechnic: take the first left after the Esso petrol station (by the ice rink / coven). Ice rink will have been on your left as you approach park end street.

Follow this side road to the end and it bends round to the right and the left. Take the left into the industrial estate and it was about 300 yards down in the industrial park on the left (near the end of the road).

Best of luck.
