Hi having a problem getting hold of the skc code to do an ecu swap. Dealer is saying he can't give me it and it is retrieved from the car its self???

Does anybody now if you can get the code from a dealer without them plugging into the car? I can provide them with the numbers from both the ecu and the cluster.

The car is a toledo v5 2002

cheers

The dealer has to connect to the car. I am surprised they tell you they can give you the SKC.

When VW went to their Geko system, the SKC numbers were hidden from the dealer techs and the only way to program the modules was to connect with the factory tool and be online with the factory. The factory sends the VIN number to the mother ship and then through some manipulation derives the SKC for the car.

For more info, have a look here:

Didn't someone on here claim they had the software/hardware to retrieve the SKC code from the VIN number?. I'm sure someone offered to help a fellow user out once with this.

Hi rombonie I never got that bit either as you get PIN/SKU 7 digit number, you need the day month and year (this PIN was created on I think) then you also have software coding number, workshop code and an importer number.

I remember I called the VW dealer when I bought my car and asked if I could get these but never heard from them again.

Don't really know if you can do a lot more anyway if you do get them, probably only do more damage !! but it would be nice to have the option. It sounds like with this new GEKO system that it will be impossible to get the info from the dealers now anyway.

Hi David,

Think you might be right but i have spoke to customer service's who tell me that they keep a record of the original pin like they do with the radio codes, however they would only email it to a dealer, dealer however will only sort the problem if booked in and he does the work, isn't will to give it out even after that. So annoying when they have already had £1500 + vat and wrecked the car.

Anyway I'm looking into vagtacho now to see if i can't pull the pin out of the cluster etc. failing that then I'll start looking at getting the immob. removed, there has to be a way i'm sure.

cheers
