Price of diesel

Problem is the price of fuel and a political debate are so closely linked, it is difficult not to talk about them both at the same time!

Since when is voting BNP got anything to do with the price of diesel. I am an owner/driver haulier and have more to bitch about than most, but all this talk of Thatcher and the BNP makes my skin crawl, can any of you remember what she did to this countries industrial heartland?

I do think on a car forum, its important to remember that whislt your business is your livelihood ... our cars and the means to get to work are also our livelihood - all of us have something to bitch about and that should be kept and seen as the common interest.

All i'd say with regard to Thatcher and her 'era' is that here we are under labour effectively screwed again, so who is the bigger thief - either way they'll have it off you one way or another. The current clowns have had their day.

I do believe that these fuel companies are taking advantage a little now & just bumping it up each week or so, crude hasnt increased that much over the last week, infact it dropped over the weekend

The next 3 months will be interesting as its the normal holiday time for the yanks, which normaly bumps up petrol, & as most dont use derv, it will be interesting to see how it goes.

I was in LA, Palm Springs to be exact last week wed>sunday & all I heard on TV was them moaning about the fuel costs & how Memorial weekend wont be the same this year

My actual costs per litre of diesel since January (Edinbugh / Perth / Dundee area) = 15% increase in 3 months!
I commute to work, and what payrise did i get..... hmmm, safe to say i am generally worse of than last year :(
I have used £766.58 of diesel this year .... ouch! Wish I had not started collating my fuel costs, mpg etc lol

03-Jan-08 = 1.069
13-Jan-08 = 1.069
18-Jan-08 = 1.079
28-Jan-08 = 1.079

22-Apr-08 = 1.149
24-Apr-08 = 1.169

07-May-08 = 1.179

I have done some number crunching and lets take a little example of cost increases
Just say an average 50 mpg (11 miles per litre) which is typical to my car.

10K miles at fuel costing £1.079/l (JanFeb time) roughly equates to a estimated total cost £980
10K miles at fuel costing £1.249/l roughly equates to a estimated total cost £1135
10K miles at fuel costing £1.349/l roughly equates to a estimated total cost £1226
10K miles at fuel costing £1.499/l roughly equates to a estimated total cost £1363

some data to think about..

This is sad but I watched Question Time last night knowing the hot topic would be fuel prices.

Very interesting debate, the majority of audience feedback was the fact we pay alot of TAX on fuel and we see no kind of improvement plan etc for public transport. It was also interesting to hear how the Souths hauliers are now getting out-priced by French/German hauliers who can come over and do a full weeks work for cheaper than what our own companies can do it for, and purely comes down to fuel costs.

On that basis I think whoever is behind this 'uncontrolled' fuel scam will see this country loose alot of buisness, if prices wern't already high enough in the UK they can only get worse with this happening.

Another point was made that there is a local garage that is selling fuel for 2p or something cheaper than the SAME garage 5 mins down the road - so the fuel companies are just as bad as the goverment, supply and demand.

Was good to see Geoff Hoon looking very worried and completely out of his depth to any question put in front of him, Eric Pickles did a grand job of ripping him and his party to pieces :)

Until the monopoly of 4-5 players is broken up fuel will not change for the better, just shows how important this monopoly is when these players have the crude pumping facilities armed garded.

But the other problem is British fuel users will keep using it and using it until it runs out..

we will never let the ****ing stuff go.... unless we are forced....and people will continue to pay higher and higher prices (i mean there must be a cut off at some point but at the moment i know im trying to cut down a lot of smaller trips or longer trips that don't necessarily have to be taken) and both myself and the wife are on good wages...
