I've always wanted a car with a twin exit system but for the Leon i'm not too fond of the aero pipes - they look a bit too small and round for my tastes

My leon was in the dealers for a few checks on recall last week and i went through to the have a chat to the mechanics while they were doing them. While my P&J was up on the car lift i couldnt help but notice there is enough room on the unused side of the rear silencer to get another set of dual exit pipes in there.....

I think it would look pretty mean but would 4 pipes in total across the back be total overkill? If it wasnt the 4 it would have to be 2 Cupra style ovals i reckon....

Anyone had a custom exhaust built at all and can offer any advice? We have a Powerflow specialist locally in Bolton but i was just wanted to be armed with some info before i went. Would they be able to modify the existing silencer or would it require a whole new rear section or complete exhaust for example?

I got mines done at a place near me in Glasgow. The guys have done a top notch job and I even got to watch them make it and piece together. The system I have is a Cat back stainless steel system (2.5" centre section, pipework that leads up to a 2" Y section that splits straight into the tailpipes) with twin tailpipes (100 mm inward rolled tips) The OEM backbox has also been removed too. Sounds great. Not too loud but louder than standard and has a nice sound to it.

Looks well smart mate.... but think he's on about getting 4 pipes out the back! Personally I think 2 is enough, but each to their own... more than 2 and its getting chavvy!

i'm considering twin duplex exhaust aswell, but i would only do it i got a dpf bypass for my TDi FR.

i've got 190bhp standard on RR so far with only a K&N panel filter as engine mod. so not worth getting only 10bhp for a safe remap. hope to get 240-250+bhp with the bypass and map.

when the dpf bypass down-pipe goes in i'll change the exhaust aswell, but would need to source a duplex exhaust valence for the rear bumper.

Check out JE-Design if you're looking for a quad cat back.

Personally I prefer the duplex cat back over the quad.

Remeber, if its deisel you DONOT need a back silencer and noise levels are quite low and muffed due to the turbo system. This SHOULD result in a cheaper cost from the Exhuast manufactures - some hope though.

Yea, when they were building mine up the guy fired up the car with just the centre section in place and even then the car was not mega loud. We just put a small 350 mm silencer on mine because I liked the sound that that had produced (a bit meatier but does not drone at motorway speeds)

That's the effect i want but with either quads or ovals rather than the round pipes - i'd just prefer that to 2xlarge round ones, no offense!

I am worried about quads looking OTT though and bit Chav.
4 huge, sticky-out dust bins a la Barryboys would be a definite no-no but the Leon OEM pipes are quite small, discrete & fitted together pretty snug..... I think it could look the dogs with another set of OEM pipes on the opposite side...

Mine's a petrol so that's right that i could lose the rear silencer?
Does this kind of thing effect fuel consumption - it is more cosmetic than for a performance gain.

No offence taken mate. This is the look that I was going for and its not to everyones tastes.
Quads done correctly will look quite nice, you thinking of doing something along the lines of a 911 where the outer tailpipe is slightly recessed than the inner one or just quads that are inline with each other?
What kind of bumper do you have? You can always have a look at some websites and try a few ideas? Do you have a pic of the back of your car? You can always get someone to photoshop a few ideas for you. C+C Exhausts in Glasgow has a section of their site where you can upload a pic of your car and play around with different options. Just an idea.

My rear bumper is just the standard FR with the matte black diffuser.

There's some excellent picturs there guys thanks, plenty of food for thought. I think it would be a direct copy of Igor's if i went with Ovals - i love the way they sit flush with the curve of the rear bumper.
If it was quads it would be more or less flush but i'd have them slightly offset as Alx mentions, again to follow the curve of the rear bumper. Plus i think the pipes would have to be fairly small - those on the black Cupra above are edging into the Fast and the Furious Territory (all IMO of course each to their own and all that).

They look great imo. I think the OEM FR and Cupra exhausts look the best. Even stuck a FR exhaust on mine. But just the one ;) Understated is the key.

Glad we can help you spend your money mate
Best thing to do is to maybe do a search and see what companies get mentioned again and again locally in Bolton (or surrounding areas) Do you have a local cruise type forum for Bolton? I know its usually full of chavs/neds/barryboys but it is a good source for finding recommended custom exhaust makers (that is how I found the guys that did mine)

There's a couple of popular choices round here for custom work - i've still got a few contacts from restoring the FTO too.
Watch this space! Not been able to start any mods on the Leon between our new baby son and the horrible weather :(
