Pondering thoughts and opinions on the Cupra. What will other Cupra owners get next?

I've always wanted a Sierra RS Cosworth 3-Dr. They are still a lot of money and it's harder to get parts for cars over 15 years old as dealers stop doing parts for them.

Yeah they are really nice, don't think they ever made that many anyway and it was only available for 2 or 3 years, so I can't imagine there are many about now.

When you see a nice one on the road it's such a buzz...

Only had mine 6 months and don't think I'll be swapping it, after all bought it just before the spectacular price crash. Was a good deal though at the time and I got a good PX on my Tolly (cleared off the finance) only had it 18 months. 4wd does deff appeal to me (anyone up for a conversion???) but like it has been said the trade in-value of my car and the fact that I enjoy driving it so much when I do, means it'll be in the family for another 2-3 years before I think again.

What ever I do get will have to be a hatchback cause of the pooch..... S4 Avant anyone?

Thinking about it seriously given the dilema the OP is in I would either

Wait and see what comes out in the near future, it should be easy to confirm if the Focus RS will be available in 5 door as orders are already being taken, hasn't RCSK2K or whatever his ID is got one on order? Maybe see what engines VW put in the Mk 5.75 Golf...

Go for a more luxury rather than sporty car based on the requirement for 5 doors, I assume 5 doors also means 4 door saloons? I had an A4 for the day and that was quite nice, some of the other cars in that segment are worth a look too. What about a Lexus or something?

The RS500 is even rarer and even more expensive again :).

The weird thing about a Cossie is that it was the "ultimate" hot hatch / boy racer toy when I passed my test, and now it is a classic but I still see it as a beast rather than an old car.

Although I have driven several of them, it has been a long time since I have done so and no doubt if I drove one again now it would be a disappointment.

You cant beat the Cossies presence, rarity and legend although I would put money on a stock Cupra giving one a really hard time of it, but when you think the Cupra is 20 years newer, it puts it all in perspective how far ahead of its time the Cossie was performance wise :)

Focus RS is 3 door only. Apparently the pressings for the huge rear wheel arches were too expensive to justify 5 door version. Plus nobody who buys one wants to use it as a taxi. lol.

Some of my mates go on about old hot hatches but they've not driven the modern ones...

Didn't one of the magazines put an Mk.2 Focus ST against the Escort Cossie and the Cossie still won?

The Cosworths in there time were so much more ahead of the other hot hatches. Circa 8 seconds to 60 was the norm in the late 80's for the better hot hatches, Cosworths were circa 6 seconds, some of the other hot hatches were closer to 10. An XR3i for example was 9.6. It's only recently really that performance has got close to the Cosworth with the like of the Cupra, VXR and ST.

Not having a 5 door version like on the new RS limits the market a bit as people like DJHorace need 5 doors for the car allowance, but then again the RS will have enough buyers anyway...

I'd love to be able to go an test some of the older hot hatches/saloons (Cossie Escort and Sierra RS500, Lancia Delta Integrale Evo, Alfa Romeo SZ, Golf Rallye G60, Metro 6R4 etc...).

I've always wanted to own an Alfa. When I first saw the Brera on Top Gear I said to the wife, there is our next car. We went and test drove the V6 4wd at Aylesbury and it was pretty average. Another childhood dream ruined. Checked tech data and it weighed over 1700kgs. Bloody bloater.

An Alfa would also be forever in the garage and worth 3 pence as soon as you drove it off the forecourt.

One of the neighbours has one as a company car, he must have got new in late summer and it spent weeks in the garage and even then I'm not sure it is sorted yet.

I've always lusted after a hot hatch as my parents owned several, but I'm sure to drive one now I would be disappointed. I know a few people who still have them though.

I do wonder if the likes of the Cupra will be talked about in 20 years time?, unfortunately I doubt it :-(

Many of the hot hatches of recent are all but forgotten, until the Mk 5 Flog GTi they weren't much to write home about over and above the standard models.

I have never driven one but I do keep having a look around on ebay and other sites etc to see how much they go for but you would have to spend a few quid to get a mint one which hasn't been messed with in anyway!!!

Upgrade from a leon would be a evo or audi S4 I suppose. The new audi S4 is meant to be the best hadling audi yet, some saying as good as the R8 so as long as the supercharged V6 is tuneable it will be a bargain in a year or two.

BMW 335i also a contender but remapped they arent all that much faster than a 340hp cupra.

I am very happy with my Cupra. Does everything I need it to do, quick, nice to drive, bit of a 'q' car and has 5drs. Cannot think of solid, sensible reasons to change to anything else similar. I like the look of the new Golf GTi but would not take the huge financial hit of changing.

The only car tempting me at the moment is the Abarth 500 SS, I love the look of it. But would have to get something bigger as well to run the dog about in!

After 3 BMW's and an Elise and various hot hatches over 25 years I really am very pleased with the Cupra.

Like others have said I must kick the habit of new car buying, the kick in nuts financially has got to stop.

I like the 6 series BMW - could be some cracking cars around 2/3 years old now - still have a soft spot for beemers; although every man and his dog has one now.

The new Focus RS could be tempting - although one reason I like the Cupra is the fact it is understated - any hot Ford is always a bit Essex boy racer - sorry Essex people :bleh:

Having only had the SEAT for 11 months now and only done 5500 miles it really does impress me every day.

An Audi of some sort would also be on the cards - build quality, styling etc is top notch.

Curious to see whether they manage to do anything "interesting" with the Exeo, engine-wise. Still not sure about the Exeo, though - it looks a bit like an A4 from certain angles.

Plan on keeping mine for another year or two, options of big turbo can keep me interested. It's an awesome car and agree with points in 1st post. I dont have much previously to compare it to, but money permiting would love an s4 next.. have to be a few years i think being 23!

Like coxw says, whilst the S3 is not a big enough leap, there is nothing really out there that justifies the change to bring even more performance. Whilst 4WD would be nice or with a diff, our current driving cannot justify buying a 4WD car when a FWD car will do the job for all our driving requirements. I understand that for some folks, the 4WD is required for the local roads so here I cannot make any comment. The Costs to make the change can be equiv to a small 2nd hand econohatch. Our family is considering keeping the car and going in for a Fiat 500 abarth or Punto esse esse instead for a small engine runaround town. Whilst the Punto is 17K the 500 is 13k, and that can be negotiated a little lower. The hit on the car is already between 7-10k so the 3k odd difference and we then get another new car. 2nd hand would make the differential even less. Choose another small 2nd hand car and the costs are lower still. Small local trips can be done in the small car and the longer trips or trips where we need to carry lots is done in the cupra. For the money we would lose in changing the car for something with equiv or more performance we can get 2 cars, which suits us both right down to the ground at the moment.

However, having said that, I do like the thought of an Audi RS4 / RS6. But for us that is only a 6 number dream :(

I should hopefully be coming back to SEAT and getting a Cupra in the next few weeks.

Waving good bye to the RX-8. Great car, but not practical enough and way too expensive to run :( Miss the grunt of a good old turbo as well :)

I was lucky enough to thrash Sierra cossies, 500's and sapphire cossies, as i worked for Ford at the time. I was 18 when the first 3 door cossies came out and they let us loose on the roads delivering them etc by ourselves:lol::lol::lol:

I also drove (slowly unfortunalty) the RS200, brand new A W E S O M E!!!

I reckon i would buy a 3 door cossie now if i needed a car, but first I would have to build a very secure garage.
