What's it worth?

I've decided it's time for a new car and have decided to get a Astra VXR. I've seen the one I want, a 57 plate with 14k on the clock inc sat nav option and 19" wheels. They dealers want 13,000 for it which I think is quite good however they are only offering £3500 for mine, is it worth going for?

My car is a 55 Cupra TDI with 106K on the clock and a key mark down one side. On the plus side it had a new gear box, new sach clutch, new dual mass fly wheel, cam belt and revo tune from APD only six months ago at a cost of £2500. Also has about £1000 worth of stereo equipment.

Any views welcome, quick response please as I am like a child at things like this and if no one advises me otherwise I will be driving an Astra by next week. Thanks!

Obviously you'll always get less if you trade it in but £3500 is pretty bad considering they'll try and sell it on for at least twice that. Possibly after ebaying all the ICE stuff ;)

I dont think trade are going to give you much more for the stereo or other extras you mentioned. u might want to try and keep the ICE and sell on seperately, see how much difference there will be with/without the extras.

They are ripping you off for the VXR, and then ripping you off on the price of yours!

Out of interest, if you are running a map on ya Ibiza (200bhp I will assume) in gear times of the VXR wont be quicker IMHO, top end, off the line it will be, at the price of half the mpg?! Plus more road tax!

I agree pretty poor offer but 13 K is pretty good I thought? Perhaps I should try to get a better price for mine, thought they'd be desperate to sell.

It's true mine does feel quicker in the gears but the Astra is so much more solid on the road and smoother

I would sell yours private and also buy private as well. Dealers will rip you off.

Could get a Leon Cupra for that price, quicker but your call, and cheaper on the car tax :). after dropping 2500 on the car I'd be wanting a bit more than that. I would say sell the ICE separately as well unless you can get extra for it.

PS I think 13k is a little steep for any car like that at the moment. I would say after having a quick look on auto trader closer to 12.5 same price as the Leon. Though you'll struggle to get NAV on a Leon.

Having driven both I preferred the cupra :)

Managed to get another thousand for my car, a years road tax and free gap insurance so decided to go for it. Can't wait. Here's some picture from e-bay:

I do like the shape of the Astra I have to admit, and I once had a Astra SRi 140 for a few days, with heated suits, the only thing I didnt like about it was its lack of torque, lack of power and lack of mpg. Atleast you only have one of those to worry about :)

Yes I agree I think I am really gonna miss the 55 odd mpg on a run with the Cupra. My work mileage has gone down loads recently though so I'm not so worried about the economy. I don't know why but I've always had a soft spot for Astra's, maybe I'm a chav deep down!

Eek. That looks like a typical vauxhall. Absolutely terrible. Always thought the astra looked like the "sculptor" 206 advert from a while back.. apart from they just made the edges as harsh and nasty as they could.. Think they stole inspiration from something they left in the toilet tbh!

If you go for that pos, er... "enjoy".. lol.

aim for 11-12k for the vxr. 3500 for the cupra although high mileage inst nice either.

edit, read the rest of the thread now, see you got a better deal.

I like the VXR, they are nice and sound so nice. Very nice car enjoy!

Enjoy the car fella, they are quick to drive and can be a real hoot. although I chose the cupra myself, having driven most of the VXR varients that is by far the best one :). Talking about econmy there is a map out there, I think someone on here had it on there VXR that uses the Sport button to enable you to switch between full bllody sport mode and economy mode which when used on a run or about town gave him 35mpg I think. If I was in a Astra VXR I'd hunt it out best of both worlds... Don't get 35mpg out of the Leon lucky to get 30... :).

I would have said the mileage is offputting and the damage theoretically will be repaired by the end retailer in the chain, further lowering its value.

The performance and audio upgrades will not be worth anything to the garage and the gearbox is a neccessity, again worth nothing.

Remove the audio and sell the car privately with a bit more than trade in for the upgrades. Don't go mad with the scene tax though!
