Well another little update.....

Just had a call back from Justin @ TTS and got the update I was after. Turns out there is a hair line crack going around hot side of the turbo and when he turbo was removed there was quite a lot of water sat in the housing.
Also turns out there were signs of quite a lot of leakage aorund the seals and banjos as well.

I also asked the question about why the turbo may need to be sent away for additional testing and was told that the idea was to see if they could assertain if the the issues with the turbo would have caused the issues I was experiencing (without having to start stripping the head even though all tests cam back ok) and to see if anything on my turbo is salvageable for hybridizing or whether it is completly goosed.

Also asked on costings for the testing and was told about £40 so cant complain and it all makes sense(ish) now.

At least there's progress.......

nice work you got going on in your engine bay looking good.
good luck with whats happening at the moment hope it all goes well and comes back better than when your car was working properly before.
should do by the sounds of your plans.

Cheers hopefully should be good when its all back. Seems so long since I've driven it although only been 2 weeks but it sucks. Then I am confined to the wifes escort at the mo...:cartman:

So are you going for a hybrid then mate?
Just waiting on the results of further tests on my exisiting turbo to prove that was what was causing the issues without having to strip the head but yea seems more & more likely thats the route I'll be taking.
Its sods law though if this had been 4-6 months ago could have afforded a Backdraft BT kit....:banghead2

Well another little update for anyone interested...

Results of testing at Turbo Technics is back and the results have come back positive that the turbo is indeed shot but.............................................................................................the turbo is not responsable for the leaking water so the head is having to be stripped as we speak.

:censored::mad::censored::mad::censored::mad::censored::mad::censored:

Really not happy as means that the hybrid is out the window due to the fact that its going to cost me a small fortune as it is.

Oh well should have it back fairly soon-ish.....I hope.:(

5 weeks, £2056 & many sleepless nights later my LCR is back among the living!

Got her back last night and felt so nice to drive, compared to the 13yr old escort i've been using, and pleased with the superb job TTS has done on it. Feels like a life time since I last drove her.

Anyway here's what was done...
  • Visual Diagnostics & Cylinder Leak Test - Leak on Cylinder 1
  • Turbo removed and sent to Turbo Technics for inspection - Hair Line Crack Unrepairable
  • New K04-023 fitted (couldn't afford hybrid as well as head work)
  • Head Degreased/Hot washed, Pressure Tested, Skimmed, Valves Reseated, Lifters Stripped & Cleaned, All Ported & Polished
  • New Head Gasket fitted along with Coolant & Oil Change

Haven't really given her a proper boot yet as a bit cautious, although told was ok to as long as I didn't drive like a t*#t, so looking forward to that and off out in a mo to break out the meg's on her and get a nice shine.

:D

Yep indeed like a long lost child! LOL
From the little bit I've driven so far, Kempston to Stevenage then to St Neots, feels superb and so much more responsive than before.

Just landed myself a huge private job, could fund a BT conversion couple of times over, and my missus went ape when I started talking about possibly using some of the money for a BT kit last night! LOL:cartman:

Give it a few months and we'll see...:D

Good news and big smiles.

Now's a good time to start using the best oils with the new turbo
Have you done any logging before this happened?
Would be interesting to see what its flowing now with the polished and ported head
