New cam belt time

I've already searched on here but haven't found the answer im looking for.

Its nearing the time for me to change the cam belt etc but not sure what to buy tensioner wise..

It seems with cam belt kits like this http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=213 you get what looks like a tensioner that you manually adjust. But I've heard people use a tensioner that you pull a pin out and it does it all its self? http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=215 like this??

Or are these two completely different things and do I actually need them both?

Thanks

they are seperate, in your normal cambelt kit if you like you get what is shown in the first pic and this is what was changed on my LCR along with a new waterpump. You can change the tensioner damper and it is included in some "luxury" (for want of a better word) cambelt kits as per this one http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=11031&xSec=357 but most places i think you will find wont change this unless you request them to

oh yer.. Ive got the 1.8t AUQ engine.

So the damper isn't always needed? The engine is now on 103k miles and with the FSH the car has got it doesn't say the damper has been changed. I guess at that age it worth while to have the change?

Thanks

this is basically whats included in the kit as you can see

OEM timing belt made by Continental
* OE tensioner Roller made by NTN-Japan
* OE tensioner assembly made by NTN-Japan
* OE Idler roller (comes on the tensioner assembly)
* Hepu water pump with metal impeller
* Conti-Tech accessory drive belt

* Behr thermostat
* Thermostat Housing
* ECS/OEM motor mount bolt kit
* Camshaft seal
* Crankshaft seal

it's a very comprehensive and good kit and it wouldn't do any harm changing the lot but i would say that all of it isn't necessarily essential at the time, if you want to be thorough still, just change the bits in bold imo (this includes the said part)

dont forget VAG specific OAT coolant, since the waterpumps coming out, you'll be draining the coolant;)
