Does anyone have a Freetrack?

"Presumably, more wear=smaller tyre=faster rotation. If the front wheels are going faster than the rear, presumably no wear on the clutch."

The part time 4 wheel drive works by using 90% front and 10% rear all the time.It does'nt make any difference about using different tyre wear.
Apparently the front wheels have to spin 45 degrees before the back wheels kick in...
Here's a link anyway...http://www.clubgti.com/FORUM/showthread.php?t=77840

I don't know if some car's came with them or not, but mine didn't so I fitted the centre arm rest yesterday as I was getting rather fed up with a sore elbow!

A bit pricey at @£90 from sere but black leather and screws onto the console top lid, although you need to drill this lid which was a bit worrying if i F@#ked it up.

Much better now no sore elbows and finishes off that area as the top lid did look a bit cheap.

Hi Morepower
You really want to put premium fuel in it,makes one hell of a difference with this engine as it quietens it down substantially and livens it up too.Besides it will keep that brand new lump nice n clean right from the off as i understand that you've owned the car from new?

It was not new when we bought it... It was on about 9000 miles but we only paid about £11,000 for it as the dealer had it sitting there for about 4 months!

I have put some premium fuel into it before but my wife always wants the cheapest fuel and we usually fill up at Morrisons... I would have needed to put more in than I did to gain a difference but I have used premium fuel in the last car and it was better. I may get some millers and see what that does.

Hi guys, I hope I will get mine finally this week. Ordered it end of March, so it is already 4 months... but according to the dealer it should have arrived on Saturday. Thanks for your posts, they are really useful.

Crono Yellow

Hi to all , new to the forum so hope i am doing this right .

Bought a Freetrack in Crono Yellow 3 weeks ago , looks awesome , turns many heads , most people seem to love it when they see it , it certainly gets alot of looks .
So far i love the car , i got a year old 7000 miles petrol and boy does it go .

Just done a weeks caravaning and touring with it , it drove superbly towing .

Very pleased :D

Hi Monsty,

I agree that these are awesome cars and great value. I have the diesel which we also use for towing.

What kind of mpg's do you get? Round town, on a run and towing?

Hi Rocky

Around town i am getting about 22 to 24 mpg on a run 35ish and towing it averaged 22 mpg , not great figures but for a car this size with 197HP i dont think its to bad . As for the towing i only ever had to come out of 6th gear to slow down for other traffic , even up hills held speed no problems ..

What do you get from the diesel ? ..

Around town getting 30 to 35 mpg.

On a run 35 to 40 mpg.

Not great for a diesel, but it can shift and I am not an economical driver!

Towing I am getting around 30 mpg - which I guess is good, obviously the extra torque helps.

Do you find the towball a little high? Which towbar do you have fitted? Do you have all the pins in the 13pin connector? I have three missing!

Freetrack Towbar

Hi ,

Yes towball sits a little on the high but ok , i dont know which it is all i know it its detatchable , i had it fitted as part of the deal when i got the car . It has the 13 pin adaptor , mine has all the pins in...........

The freetrack tow ball height is on the high side. Appearently it conforms to the regulation height when the car is fully loaded. If on a gradient when connecting the caravan on I need to sit on the edge of the boot to clear thr tow ball to the caravan hitch.

My electric 13 pin socket lacked 3 pins and they did not come with the aux wiring loom. I had to cut the socket off and fit a proper one. Still awaiting a reply from Seat to a letter about the issue I have now sent twice. I am not letting it rest.

It does make a very good tow car no having to wait for the front wheels to grip in wet or dusty roads.

We have the westfalia removable towbar fitted on our Freetrack. I'm not sure why so many people say its high as ours is fine and we have no trouble hitching up the caravan. Electrics integrated with the preinstalled loom so parking sensors automatically deactivate when the trailer is hitched and trailer stability assist comes on.

Towbar

I dont have trouble hitching on , but ideally a caravan should tow very slightly nose down for safe towing , getting van down to 75kg noseweight ( freetracks towball weight limit ) means van is sitting very slightly nose up ..

Cheers

Hey guys, sorry for changing the subject somewhat but has anyone else noticed how easy the apparently scratch resistant bumpers mark?
Looks like they are just plastic with a thin rubber coating sprayed on and they seem worse than if they were simply painted to me. Anyone found a way to remove such marks?

Bumper

Yes , i have found they scratch very easily , infact way to easy and it doesnt seem to polish out . I read in several articles saying they were scratch resistant , that really is not the case , my dog scratched ours jumping out the boot ...

I've had my Freetrack since Dec 08 and though I live in London and drive around the country I've only seen one other Freetrack on my travels. I get the feeling that the car will be worthless in 3 years time due its low initial cost when I come to trade it in for a newer car. I wouldn't be surprised if SEAT stop offering it. Though saying that I'm also surprised that the motoring press don't include it when comparing similar vehicles eg Honda CRV, Nissan Qasqai etc

As for fuel consumption I'd be lucky to get better than 38mpg on a motorway when cruising at 75 to 80mph indicated (sat nav shows this to me 70 to 75), falling to 30 to 35mpg around town.

I agree that this car has poor residuals, one of the best bargains on the market! I feel for those that have baught new at full RRP!

I don't understand why they are not more popular as mechanically I suppose they are the same as the last A3/A4 170 TDI Quattro which cost way more new and used.

If anyone is swoppy alloys I would be interested in buying one of the originals!

I bought mine at year and half old 7,400 miles for under half the new price , fantastic 2nd hand buy , so much kit for the money , Mine is the petrol , does up to 35 on run , round town you dont want to know , but the petrol its such a hoot to drive i love it , have surprised so many supposed fast cars when they couldnt overtake a 4wheel drive , fun to see thier faces .

RockyFreetrack,

"....I connected a creative zen with the two phono jacks (nothing connected to the video one) and had no sound through the stereo on Aux. "

Did you get this problem sorted out by any chance? I'm having exactly the same problem with mine :(, so any advice would be much appreciated, before I speak to the dealer about it.

Many thanks.
