Drop the box out & take it to a gearbox specialist (one that is recommended by a local garage). The 1.4 16v boxes are notorious for being rubbish. Took the same 1.4 & Lupo Gti box out & had them reconditioned for a fraction of the price of a new one.

You managed to sort it?

I had a play with mine the other day and SNAP its the same ETB gearbox!

A certain individual tells me they are poor and to just forget it.

I scoured the net and there is NIL for sale. Think I might just mate an old transit gearbox on and see how we go if they are that bad!?

Just spent £440 on a gearbox and fitting.

i've totally messed up the old box.

We all seem to be in the new gearbox trend. Now i know why there are nil second hand ones going. Probably still be just as bad tho if I did get a selected second :-(

Holy *!?! &@^!!

How did you manage that? Are you in the habit of going into reverse at 70mph?

(Just Kidding).

I had to have my Arosa 1.4 Tdi gearbox taken apart and fixed about 20,000 miles ago when I started running out of selectable gears. Eventually, I only had 1st, 2nd and 5th to choose from - wouldn't go into any of the others!

That cost me about 700-800 pounds by the way - removal of the gearbox by my local independent one-man garage, who then sent it to a gearbox specialist for repair, and refitting - so your price looks pretty good. I assume it was a scrap gearbox for that price?
