Nowhere near, i.e. Norway.
Hi Rob,

Do you have any pics of your car on the compomotives?

Thanks,
Neil.

Maybe I can help.

Thanks to my 'super fan'!

Nothing to report just now, kids are off on holiday this week so having to keep them entertained. I plan to do the rods next week, should only take a few days to swap the rods over then I can start building everything back up - hopefully all finished in about 3 weeks time.

Rob, we have a RR day on Sunday the 1st of November @ Wallace, I'm sure we can have a place for you and yours:)

Thanks Willie but I'll most likely be still running the engine in, it will take me ages to do 1k miles before I can change the oil to synthetic and start giving it some.

I made a start on the bottom end today - drained the oil, removed the filter, disconnected the return line and level sensor and loosened off all the sump bolts.

I also removed the thermostat and replaced it with the lower temp Neuspeed one, so cooling kicks in earlier. I also got the matching fan switch as well.

Some updates for you, got the sump off today, came off quite easily with no hassles:

Rods ready to come out now:

Old oil pump, all looks very clean inside the engine, no gunk or sludge:

Took the opportunity to spray some of the engine parts that looked pretty grubby, this is the lower timing belt cover and the accessory belt tensioner:

SO next week I'll have the rods and pistons out, hone the bores, fit the new rods and start getting it all back together again - shouldn't take long, the bottom end is quite simple to work on. :D

Ok next update - rods and pistons are out and I have fitted the new IE rods. Just got to flexhone the bores and I am ready to rebuild the engine - woohoo!

Old rod removed from piston:

Doing them one at a time:

All done! I found this job very easy apart from getting the wrist pin c-clips back in!!!

I also invested in a set of ARP head studs and nuts, rather than use the OE stretch bolts, they are much stronger and have 40% better clamping force than the OE bolts.

I'll get the bores honed tomorrow and then the fun begins, rebuilding it all back up! :D
