Hi guys, hardly been on here for donkeys' years now. Popped in a couple of times per year to nosey around but not posted since 06. Glad to see the site is still going strong though.

Can anybody identify this part? It was sat on the top of the gearbox! Just had car MOT'd but no work needed doing.

It looks like some kind of a bung or stopper. Round bit is about 30mm diameter. It's made of a hard rubber and clearly just pushed into something. The bit that looks like a thread isn't, it's just parallel ridges.

Car is a 53 reg Mk1 Leon Cupra 180.

Thats the bung for the hole on top of the gearbox which is used to see/access the flywheel. Guess the hole is needed when carying out a cambelt ?

take a look close to the engine block down the n/s where it attaches to the gearbox. you should find the hole it lives in (just pushes in)

Cheers all that's exactly what it was. It's back in place now.
While it doesn't feel loose exactly it's not super tight and feels like it could work loose with vibration.
