In my opinion, the LCR's etc will never become a 'chav tastic motor' mainly because the chav sence just don't understand how great the cars really are!

Round my way you hardly see any Leon's full stop and if you do, l normally know who they are because l see them at the Derby SCN meet we have each month and the only chav there is "Stig" with his under car neons! Sorry Stiggy...

lt all seems to be about the Mk4 Golf round here and once again, l honestly feel thats because the young 'chavy' drivers don't understand just how great the Seat brand really is and all they see is a cheap version of a VW!

Well, I'm in Hemel, and I've only seen one other LCR around, and if I've popped by the McD drive through lateish then the car-park crew (I thought that only happened in films...) tend to have the usual assortment of OTT modifications.

When I put up some pics to show friends/workmates, opinion was split, majority said ti looked nice and really sporty, whilst a few went for that precursor to chav and called it a bit 'Kevin' :)

Personally, I'm 28 now and with I got my 03 LCR a few weeks back because I've always loved the look of it, even at stock, but the fact that it has 5 seats and a huge boot mean that it isnt a totally stupid chav purchase. I find it comfortable to ride in the morning traffic (More torque, less gear changes) and is great for overtaking, but I've only really pushed it on the right roads.

Lets hope they dont get too chavvy...

whats hemel like some of my mates want me to go down but i dont wanna go if its full ov chavs in saxos

is this a joke? That sounds like the "chaviest" thing you could do in that situation, other than actually performing a burnout at the traffic lights.

Well, Great Yarmouth, even though to population of chav's rises daily, haven't got too many Leon's about yet, certainly no LCR's (although there is a PD150 up there somewhere) but all the one's i've seen are standard (or they look standard anyhoo).

I wouldn't like to call myself a 'boy-racer' but i do enjoy driving and my car (despite being a 1.1 106) with the odd 'dual carraigeway race' with some random person in a 1.2 Clio or Paxo but who doesn't? Still, there will be no things hanging off my car, if you're going to modify a car you have to do it properly in my opinion. :)

Seen a lot of leons around here, no chavvy ones so far though! Plenty of the usual suspects though, saw what I think was a saxo with such an oversized bodykit it was genuinly hard to tell what car it was. And a rear spoiler that was set about 2 feet onto the roof, not at the back and looked like it had been nicked off an F1 car :wtf:

My car is only a 1.6 and I drive it sensibly. Yes I like to drive fast but a 30 zone is not the place to do that. Plus i've only had my licence a year and currently pay nearly £1k insurance so I cannot afford to get points! I would love a Cupra, but as I am saving for a house :)lol:) I simply cannot afford it.

As prices start to drop to affordable level for the younger generation of us (im 26).

I can't actually believe that at 26 you are referring to people as the 'younger generation'.

What do you think about people that are 40? Old coffin dodgers? :D

Don't make yourself feel old too soon, you've probably got a long while to go yet! ;)

Sadly its the same with any car :(

one they fall into the price range of chavs and boy racers they buy them ruin them and sell them on.

Thats why i sold my MR2 Turbo became cheap enough for the "street racer" crowd to own so it was time to move. They are great little cars and seriously fast with jsut a few simple mods but now have a bad image. Same with the early scoobys and evos, they buy them fit a silly loud exhaust and dump valve then just drive round and round town centres. how the mighty have fallen!

Happens to any car.

I had my Leon for 5 years (2005-2010).

I got bored of it, and yes, it was starting to become part of the Chav culture (few Cupra R's being tear arsed around). I was even pulled by the police last year as my car was "similar" to one they had been chasing earlier in the day (yes, it was a Cupra R.........that got away from them).

I opted for a car that wont ever be in the boy racer tag, a Freelander 2 HSE :)

iv read through the thread and am not sure what people are meaning when they say chav.

to me a chav is someone who doesnt work, or is a non skilled worker, who likes to fight for next to nothing, generally just acts like a tw*t.

now admitedly this chaviness can spill over into cars, but its defo the usual escort corsa etc.

then there are boy racers, and to me thats something entirely different, it can include chavs or young money or ordinary every day people and even old men (a distant relative of mine was banned for street racing aged 57)

I work as a marketing co-ordinator for a leading charity, and often run violence prevention/personal safety sessions with young people and children, i make a modest wage, I own my house, i dont drink and have no criminal record.

I do however have some mods on my car and i do even have a street race once in a blue moon, i dont think that makes me a chav, a bit silly maybe but not a chav.

anyway in relation to the poll id be more 'worried' about chavs going for the ibiza, i dont think the leon would appeal generally

in my area there seems to be an increasing number of 1.6 leons with the R bodykits and far too many R badges on them going around. its got that bad that i had a guy with a saxo vtr convinced his car was quicker than mine as i only had a 1.6 with a proper cupra r kit. during the credit crunch a few younger people had to sell theres as i got mine at 18 and at one point me and faisal were the youngest people with Rs on the site

but it is a nice side effect:funk:

IMO anyone that has to come up with some reason to justify why they are not a chav/boy racer is in fact one. There is a lot of people in this threa in denial with lines such as "i like to race but doesnt everyone?"
what is wrong with bieng a boy racer? i have met some people seriously involved in underground street racing and they are as sound as you like. Purely interested in tuning there engines and beating each other.

I haven't looked or replied to this thread in a long time but it's become apparent by the recent posts that it's down to location. I own one of about 3 LCRs in roughly a 10mile radius, around the same number of LCs and I think I saw a grey LC/FR TDi once about a year ago. All appear to be family owned shopping carts (sadly) and I think that I am honestly the only one who has taken an interest in the car.

The MK3 Renault Clio or Corsa B/C appear to be favourite for the college kids around here, although I don't think any of them live too close by and there are only a handful. These are the street racers, I walk to work each day and I see at least one fly by at break-neck speed, everyone else is fairly sudate, including tha local Jap car gathering at the nearest petrol station which I have noticed on a Thursday night, they just sit there, hang out and chat by the looks of things and the cars are always sqeaky clean & more unique (i.e. you need to know your cars to appreciate it).

TBH, I think the days of the underpowered boy racer car with a body kit are over, the days of the high powered street racing Japanese/German car are over, we're left with a new class of 'racer', which is the late 20 - 30-something male with a decent job and higher class car, trying to prove how large his wang is by showing us all just how well he can drive like an idiot in his new Focus ST, BMW 1/3 series, Lexus, Audi etc.

fair amount of the Focus squad round here. Just because they have a turbo they must me the fastest car on the road.

i think i must have a big magnet on the back of my car as everyone seems to want to drive into my boot.

everyday on the way home i see the same 20 year old in his 09 golf GTi who feels the need to accellerate past and "dump" next to me. as if somehow he feels the need to show he is also packing boost and seems to think i care.

one of these days i will find out if his is mapped....

What a tool! See what I mean though, it's the people with newer cars that are the issue and generally have no clue about the machine they're driving. Even if it is mapped, they only usually make 240bhp, the turbo is quite small I believe. I am sure there are a freak few that have made higher numbers of course but in general, I don't rate the GTi unless it's Edition 30.

Organise a grudge match track day with the lad and see if he really knows how to drive :D

no its not the chaviest thing although admittedly it does seem abit chavy.
I listen to rnb so its not that annoying **** which chavs listen to. So therefore I am just getting them annoyed so in future they will know not to pull up next to me pumping there crap through there crappy speakers.

 tbh honest mate thats kinda what im saying. (unless iv misunderstood you)

if your fairly sensible and just have the odd race on a quiet dual carrageway at night then i really dont think that qualifies you as a chav, a boy racer perhaps, but not a chav.

:| Thats the most oxmoronic thing i have heard to date. But i kind of get your point. but i do not see how blasting rnb (what ever that is) out of a sub in your boot annoys chavs. It all sounds the same from the outside and they probably just think you're one of them.
