Smoothing and painting Valve Cover on 1.8t What Colour Guys?????

Also Guys,

Does anybody know what the little weird shaped box does that sits on top of the end right hand coilpack on the valve cover it has one small pipe going into it, thought maybe it could be deleted and tidied up a bit but i dont know what purpose it serves? Anybody?

Cheers

The box is a vacuum reservior. It stores some vaccum to operate valves when there is no manifold vacuum present. Never deleted one tbh but there is no reason why it couldnt be moved.

Do you mean the plastic cover or rocker cover?

I did plastic cover same colour as car

Manifold I polished but I have another one I'm doing white so its coming off

Rocker I originally did black but had to sell to raise funds

But I've just done another one white to match the manifold

And made this coilpack cover to, not decided what colour to do that yet.

Yeah the rocker cover my cars silver, but I have a gloss black detail theme going on, my manifold is being ported and polished at the moment, so with the gloss black and polished details it should look good, I like the idea of red rocker cover but it's not an evo the black stealth looks good tho, I see you have a coil cover on yours, 034 motorsport make some nice coil covers they tidy things up a bit when going down the route of removing the ugly plastic cover on the non 210/225 1.8t's, gonna re fit the Mani with a power gaskett too!

Does anyone have the link to deleting the vacuum resevior, to me it looks useless is a tiny pipe and a little plastic box! Any info on this appretiated

I like to fully understand the workings of stuff any body know of any books or articles on the systems on the 1.8t and how it all works???? I'm pretty switched on and know most things but there are many strange pipes that seem not to make sense on the 1.8t

Adam, what tools (drill, grinder, polisher, attatchments) did you use to smooth your rocker cover? Mine is really rough at the mo a really horrible casting loads of shart spikes really nasty! Was gonna go at it with a grinder carefully, care to share the methods mate??

Hehehe i'll throw a question in here too, Adam are you using VHT paint on your engine components that are sprayed/painted?

Cap'n Cupra, checketh this here thread. Should solve all your problems, i'm yet to do mine but it won't be long.... :)

ive done mine about 3 colors in the past haha inc illuminos yellow for fun..
i would reccomend getting it done properlly as the heat will make it dull / bubble
im getting mine powdercoated with my wheels when i get round to it

The VHT paint won't go dull as its high temp, especially if you use the high temp laquer to seal it.

Captain Cupra mine was done with a belt sander and dif grades of paper until it was smooth.......took hours but came out ok in the end.

I fitted one of those powergaskets to and it definatly hasn't done any harm :)

Yeah spot on matey! I think the ECU can't make it's mind up for a definate driving style yet though as it's hesitant very occasionally.... although i keep forgetting it is a turbo so it's probably just lag. LOL!

Can you use a standard external bodywork paint then cover it with VHT lacquer? I'm concerned about bubbling, that's all. Oh and the fact i can't find your colour paint enywhere... :p

What are we talking about painting here? If its the plastic cover you can use normal paint as long as you use plastic primer first.
