Hi all

Assuming I can get hold of some Xenon headlamp units, how easy is it to swap them in place of the standard ones ? Does the wiring need changing ? Also can I fit the auto-on switch/sensor kit too as my FR doesnt have it.

The auto lights is a bit more than just a switch, there is a sensor built into the windscreen and this sensor also triggers the auto wipers when rain falls on it too.

I thought there would be some sort of sensor involved. Just wondered on how much/difficult it would be. Will ask Camberley Seat when the car goes in for a service soon.

To basically swap the xenon lights, your looking at the new headlamp unit, Bulbs, and ignitor/ballast, as well as the adapter wiring to change the pin out. As Xenon adjustment only works with the auto levelling sensors, the switch in the cabin will not adjust the height anymore. Retail price of all the parts would be around £700. its been done on a here a couple of times, have a search.

Hi buddy

As Dan says it can be done and a couple on here have already done it. From what I have seen its quite a big job as along with the automatic levelling etc you will also need headlight washers fitted to enable you to pass an MOT.

I have factory fit xenons on mine and yes there pretty good and completely change the look of the car on or off, but IMO the light output is not vastly if at all better than the Halfords Extreme Blue vision bulbs in my MR2. If I were you I would consider going down the upgrade bulb route, there are lots of options none of which will go much over £30 and will give you 90% of the xenon look you are after.

Good luck though if you decide to go for it.

Hi there

I have fitted the bi xenon's without the auto leveling, it took about an 2 hours to change the lights over (bumper off etc), coding is needed, and the xenon headlight plugs, I wired the bi xenon flap to the highbeam cable so when you flick the highbeam on you get the bi xenon aswell, just saves all the wiring inside the car etc, my car has past an mock mot to, the light output is great and on high beam is very good, just think i have the bi xenon, and nightbreaker H1 on at the same time,

If you need some help let me know
