I was driving fine in second gear..

Put my foot down a little bit and there was a big bang!!

Car now bunny hops in every gear and i cant stop it, there is also a horrible noise coming from underneath which goes if you push the clutch in..which is why i think its gearbox related.

Gears can be selected fine aswell and the clutch works fine it just bunny hops its a**** off with a horribly noise if driven

Any ideas?

Gearbox?
Diff?
Flywheel?

:(:(

Know roughly how much a recon box is?

Got mine for about 700 in the end with reinforced diff, new gears gaskets etc only old thing was casing. The diff rivet type things were replaced with larger bolts to keep it all secure. Company produced a nice box although customer service skills were poor ended up chasing them up about 8-9 times to try and get the refund for my returned old knackered box.

Checked the driveshaft and they look normal, cant see any fault with them.

The loud bang i expected to see the driveshaft snapped lol

Think its the diff tbh

Sounds like it could very well be the diff, they are weak in these boxes because as Joe has mentioned they are riveted in from factory, and the rivets can come through the gearbox casing if the diff is put under some stress.

Get the box out it, and find a decent gearbox rebuilder near you. they could replace the diff and weld up the casing if thats whats happened.

That's a good idea but do get some quotes first as it maybe cheaper to replace than get it rebuilt, IIRC there's a certain way to weld gearbox housing, as it's made from a different type of metal (not sure what) and a mate of mine ended up using some kind of bonding/ glue to repair his, although not sure if this is the best way....:ban:

Casing is just cast aluminium, heres a repair i did to mine when the pinion shaft in the diff slid out of place milling a nice grove in my box caused by a roll-pin failing (very common on these box's)
