hi
one of the iginition coils went on my ibiza causing the engine light to come. now ive replaced the ignition coil and have been driving it for about 2 weeks and the light still hasnt gone off.

ive tried unplugging the negative on the battery and leaving it standing for a couple of hours but the light still stays on.does anyone know how i could clear the light?

thanks

dont know anyone in sheffield that does it apart from stealers.

is there like a cheapish version of vag com that you can buy that works on both ibiza and golf mk5 as might be getting one so dont mind paying for vag com as might use it in the future

At a Shell garage..
Ask in the vagcom section in the forum, Im sure there will be someone local with it.

There is cheap ebay vagcom cables, but Im not sure if they would fit both the Ibiza and Golf. Again ask in the vagcom section and someone will probably have the answer :)

The cheapest decent version of VAG-COM/VCDS you can get would be VCDS-Lite from Ross-Tech. You can buy a 3rd party cable (~£15) from the likes of Gendan, then purchase a license ($99) for the shareware software (from Ross-Tech) which will give you full functionality for clearing fault codes etc.

However, VCDS-Lite will not work on a Mk5 Golf.

You'd want to be looking at a HEX-CAN cable direct from Ross-Tech to work with both cars, approx cost £250. The software is free for HEX-CAN users.

thanks for all the replies.
ended up getting a mate of a mate who works at a garage to look at it for me.
now it came up saying fuel trim p170 i think he said which he said means an air leak. now ive not had this problem before and last week i changed the ignition coil.
are there any pipes around there that i could have unplugged that might have caused this

Sorry I can't help with P codes, they're a code from a universal code reader, I need a VCDS/VAG-COM code. Air leak sounds rather odd, quite unusual for a 1.2.

ive had a look on gendan code library and the code that came up is p0180 which shows up as
GENERIC Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit Malfunction

now does anyone know if theres any way i can confirm its the above?

also is the proper vag code system more accurate?

The proper vag com comes up with plain english versions of the fault codes, which are easier to work with. The fact that you have two different descriptions from the same fault code suggests one (or both) are wrong.

I thought fuel trim was MAF related?

Thegills, as far as I know the oil light isn't a fault code as such, it's the service interval? On the ross tech website there is a page concerning service intervals and things, there is one that talks about oil quality and level (or something like that). Have a look to see if that helps.

Are you suffering bad mpg?

16554 and P0170 together is often a lamba sensor fault, if this is the case then your car's emissions would be high, making it burn more fuel and possibly fail an MOT. It can also be a physical air leak, best looking around the engine cover for damage where the air filter is housed on the 1.2s.

17978 and P1570 is an immobiliser issue, I suspect this is a one off code seen as you had your battery disconnected. Just reset it and forget about it.

All the climate control fault codes are intermittents so just reset those and see if any come back again.

thanks for replying

now before i read the codes i was looking around the engine bay to see if anythings loose when i realised the coolant level was right low. now i filled this and have just drove to birmingham and back and the lights gone off. could it have been on due to the coolant level
